"have a mammut jacket with c-change since last season. feels good, strechy etc. BUT it is NOT waterproof. after heavy-dumpage treeskiing-day, the jacket weights double and doesnt dryout overnight!"
I think you'll find that any of these tech fabrics will be somewhere between breathable and waterproof rather than being both

Like the milwaukee, it's not 100% waterproof per se, but water resistant enough to keep you dry.
Really fucking warm though.

Sounds shit
I have been wearing a merino baselayer and the rapha breton jumper or merino track top for most of the cold snap.
Only on the really windy days have I suffered. If I need to protect myself from showers a stowaway has sufficed.
my softshell has been nearly retired as i just sweat too much in it.
have come to the conclusion that I am better off in garments that wick well even in the cold.
on mondays TNRC outing I just had a lightweight merino/nylon jersey on top of a baselayer and wore that for half of it, putting on a stowaway as a wind cheater later on to stay a little warmer as out of the city the wind was a little chillier.
coming to the conclusion that if I am putting in enough effort then heat loss is more the problem than retention.
i hate being really fucking warm on the bike

The milwaukee doesn't exactly repelled water, after an hour in a heavy rain, it's pretty clear that the jacket is soaked, but the inside remain dry apart from the obvious place of course (such as wrist).

Right, finally purchased a jacket so I thought I would share, I got a Montane Krypton jacket.
I hope this is an adaquate compromise between effective wicking (as I run hot when cycling), some insulation on the colder days (it has a fleecey liner) and windstoppping when it's chapping. As an added bonus it is semi waterproof although this wasn't a priority for me.
Thoughts to come once I've worn it for a bit.

Has anyone got one of the Fixed Gear London jacket? Thinking of picking one up in the sale, but wondering whether to stick with a more common brand.

Bought a North Face Nimble jacket in the sale at Blacks two days ago.
Its the same shell as their other semi-waterproof jackets, i.e. water resistant + water repellant coating, but with no fleece lining etc.
Have to say that its the first jacket that I don't run hot in. Probably not hugely waterproof, but i'll trade that for staying dry due to not sweating! -

Can anyone recommend something inbetween the Swrve Milwaukee jacket and the Swrve windbreaker?
The Milwaukee is way too warm, especially on a 10 miles commute, 3 miles it's fine, but 10 minutes is taking the mickey.
The windbreaker is perfect, but the lack of hood, rear pocket, etc. is a bit off putting, plus it's not exactly a jacket I can wear everyday beside on a bicycles.
Would very much love to get that Mission workshop jacket as it's perfect, but jesus, £300+?!

Any opinion on the Pearl Izumi Stockton jacket?
-
• #215
so far i only have seen noticable performance differnces on the gore fabrics. all the other
stuff i find to be just plastic jackets. i have a pear izumi jersey that stinks like a dead
mouse after a short ride same like the rapha soft shell.
no problem with gore stuff or wool. -

My dad is obsessed with Buffalo tops - he thinks they're great, I'm not sure which one he's got but when I was buying my jacket he was definately pushing for a buffalo to be considered.

I have one. It's very good, but very warm.

buffalo's were designed to be worn snug, right next to the skin. the pile wicks sweat well and doesn't chill. i've found them to be very warm, stiflingly so sometimes, even with all vent slits open. i'd venture they'd be too warm for sustained cycling.

That one doesn't have pile. It's a lighter weight and works well with a helly etc under. Good for winter MTB in the wind/mountain walking. Too hot for much else.

It said it didn't cost the Earth anything, just your bank balance.
The small milwaukee fit me fine, and I'm 6'.
You'll be fine bloke on the heavy side.
