I've worn earmuffs on the bike in winter ever since I was a kid, as I get really bad earache from the wind on the bike. Problem is, the only ones you can get are those fluffy ones and they make you look like a dick and/or a toddler.
If your gonna wear ear muffs you could get this style which aren't quite as bad. Just pu "ear muffs" in fleabay search

Earflaps. Genius.
there are at least a bakers dozen of these kinds of hats. buy in person! Some of the flaps don't do much other than scoop the cold air directly into your ear. You need a pretty snug fit that goes well below the hear. That said, i'[m not familiar with the temps in winter london. Where I ride it's -20 after the sun sets.

Although they are a bit expensive, I wore one of the Rapha winter hats all last winter and found it really good at keeping my ears warm - it does make you look a bit of a donut though - however, its a small price to pay for warm ears
I quite fancy the red knitted one this year, when it comes out http://www.rapha.cc/knitted-hat

The sports shops over here (Norway), sell these individual fleece (or wool) thingies which are like a mini elasticated hat for each ear. Probably poo on there own but may work if held in place (hidden) by a skull cap. Might be worth checking camping shops.
Personaly I find a buff + skull cap covers most conditions, but its not a flattering look :6 -

Want:
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/dhb_Wickham_eVENT_Waterproof_Jacket/5360037016/
Get one. They had it on the weekly special the other week so I grabbed one for 80 something. Pretty good stuff. Gets slightly sweaty if you're really pushing it but far far better than GTX.

I need a waterproof layer to wear over my izumi jacket which is something like this: http://www.pearlizumi.com/product.php?mode=view&pc_id=45&product_id=1451297. It's pleanty warm enough so I just needed something to stick on over it in really heavy rain. something that packs down really small and won't make me sweat loads when combined with the thermal jacket thing - anyone got anysuggestions?
