  • Dammit - if you're not carefuly, you'll soon be out biked by your mrs.

  • I know.

I'm planning on lending my car to AndyP for his Christmas paternal journey, secure in the knowledge that he'll a) be out of the house for a while, as will his Mrs, b) his bikes should fit me, c) I have no morals and d) how hard can this housebreaking lark be?

  • I have my main ride in the hallway, beater bikes mostly to lend to friends/siblings in a lean-to shelter in the backyard, occasional use bikes (like mtb's, road bike and spares) in the shed and a few wheels and spare frame in my bedroom.

If I was one of you london folk with fancy bikes id be wary of giving too much detail about where you keep your bikes, most people get burglarised by people they somehow know...

  • Skully can you pm me the link to buy those,
    I need about 8.

  • most people get burglarised by people they somehow know...

    *burgled!

    burglarised just sounds so wrong.

  • i leave mine at work and just push it around the high street when the weather is nice

They'd have to get past James, my barely legal highly trained last line of bicycle defence.

No bikes have ever been stolen on his watch.

  • I keep mine in a safe at the Bank of Enlgand. Break into that you fuckers.

  • 2 on one of those fance floor to ceiling bike hangars in the bathroom and 2 in the spare bedroom. Still plently of room for more :)

  • in the bathroom

    Is steam not an issue?

  • I've got one bike in the bedroom, two in the spare room, one in the front room and housemate has one in her room (it was two until a coupla days ago)... Too many bikes basically... ;]

  • i cant remeber which thread this was originally from, maybe it was dealing with bike storage vs the other half, but i laughed my ass off

  • Is steam not an issue?

Without sounding like a cunt (hopefully), it's quite a big bathroom. Even when it does get steamy in there, it's plenty big enough not to cover the bikes in condensation.

I have kept my carbon road bike and an ever changing line up of steel bikes in there and none have had any problems yet.

  • I've just been to the Bank of England vault.

    My bike's gone!
    I can't fucking believe it!

They left all the money, too.

  • I'm so glad I have a garage at the moment. When I was in London I had them in the flat hall - but two was the limit. Now I have three and it would be super-jammed.

In the garage I can hang them up on the rafters when I'm not using them, apart from the hybrid which would give me another bloody hernia and pull the roof down around it.

  • No doubt a stupid question, but what's the advantage of hanging up your bike?

(not directed at Sparky, more to do with those hangers you can buy)

  • You don't need to pick it up when you hoover.

  • I'm at parents house so all my family's bikes are around, it means we can co exist peacefully, as the bikes not in use aren't blocking the route to the ones in use.

Hanging up means they aren't going to get knocked over or in the way. Also you don't have to constantly rearrange them to get to the bike you need*. It also looks neater.

    • this depends on how many bikes you have :)
  • You hoover?

OK yeah I get it now. And just realised the aptness of my query with my forum name!

The back of the garage has a lawnmower and other stuff like that. I can hang the bike, usually just my light fixed gear, above all that and save floor space. My tourer and my hybrid are too heavy, really.

Another plus is that the saddle doesn't get scuffed on the wall - although it's scuffed to buggery from before I started doing this, but when i change it...

Well, the maid comes every Monday, but the cats fight throughout the week so sometimes an interim hoovering is required.

if I left the bike on the floor in my 6 foot hallway, it would be in the way because of the handlebars

in the air it wouldn't be a problem

the hanging idea is winning at the minute

  • Fill the tires with helium, then when you get off it will float to the ceiling.

  • Don't try this in trendy loft-conversion flats, or you will be late for work trying to get it down from the high ceiling.
