that was my thinking phil .. but i do have the locking ring from an old BB to help secure it .. and i'll prolly leave the brakes on ..
.. but first i need to get the cassette off to see if its an nice iso thread, or the stupid maillard helicoil thingy, or worse, some daft french standard thread.
if its iso, then fixie it will be .. if not then i need to look at some new wheels .. trouble is there's so much nice bike porn to look at, that a young man could get quite carried away .. -

Matt, I've got a short a-head stem which I'll bring to polo on Sunday. Dave might well be interested in unicycle.

my first post: and i thought id dedicate it to asking if a mountain bike disk front hub or a high quality track hub is the way to go for a guy who abuses his drivetrain/braking system on a regular basis?

i recommend installing cogs properly
-
• #390
even then i still dont trust the lockring and cog system, do you rotafix then stick the lockring on?
-
• #391
rotafix or use a chainwhip that is long enough to reach the rim, tighten tight. thread on lockring, use a bar on the tool so again, it reaches the rim.
also, dont use cheap hubs, dont use cheap cogs.
never had a cog slip doing this
-
• #392
me, cheap?....... haha yeah i intend to put some actual dolla into my drivetrain over the next couple of months but i shall use your advise, cheers dude (and now im out of the nursary)

both going cheap.
just add a decent cog and lockring and you're sorted.

if i wasn't utterly skint (drunk online purchases not helping here!) i've probably buy a set just in case i wanted to build a new wheelset.

yeh im tempted, but once i have the hubs i'd just end up buying a bike to match.

thinking about selling my colnago mexico/saronni, just enquiring as to what offers i may get. i will shortly post images and measurements

please do
guess you'll need a freewheel removal tool to get the 5 speed off. you will be able to thread on a track hub on the freewheel thread but no lockring, known as a suicide setup. i did the same thing back in the day before i knew what a track hub was. if you rotafix it on, it should be strong enough to brake with but you need to be careful.
