I'm almost impressed by the sellers ingenuity. Actually, I find it quite amusing really.
Is the whole frame consistently like that, can you not just keep it? I like it. It looks just like some 80s style Puma trainers I've got:

yea the whole frames like it, so im not fussed really, i guess it just wasnt to the sellers tastes hence the bogus tar story. could email him and ask him to refund me the £4.99 for the tar and bug cleaner i bought from halfords. or ask him to put it towards a pair of them back kicks so i look extra fly.
anyways, the frames pretty clean now at least.

I was also told not to use fairly liquid on a bike because of the salt content, I don't know if that's bollocks though.
