I just had my 430 Twin serviced (sorry, not local to you I'm sure) for $40!
Total win; no crackly bits and guaranteed for 10 years. -

Payday tomorrow. I may be there justifying unnecessary audio aquisitions.

Not audiophile at all but does anyone have recommendations for a wireless 5.1 setup?
On the smaller side for a flat, with the fronts not on stands (they'll go into a tv cabinet thing) or maybe just a soundbar front setup?
I also want a Blu-ray player so if you have opinions on those, feel free to deliver below..

As per the last page, I've been using a Marantz PM6004 and a pair of Monitor Audio BX2 speakers (with a Project Debut Carbon turntable) and I'm delighted with how it sounds.
The Yamaha AS500 amp was also near the top of my list and they're both loud enough to get complaints from neighbours.
I'm thinking about getting a Yamaha AS500 too when I can get some cash together. No idea where to start with speakers though, I've got a budget of around £200 I guess.

A Leak 20 amp, tuner and pre-amp.
Untested, but I think they want £350 all in. Which if it all works, would probably make you a considerable profit. Which of course you could share with me.

Anyone have experience of Onkyo TX-NR515 or 616 receivers?
At £250 the 515 in particular looks astonishingly good value considering the features, but I'm pretty concerned by the number of problems that people seem to have with them despite firmware updates. Not sure whether I want to take the risk.
(apologies for mentioning 'value' in the audiophile thread, I'm new here)

I have the 515. I love it.

I have an Onkyo 605 that I got second hand about 4 years ago, still going strong.

^^ That's the rub. Those receivers get great reviews when they work ok, but there does seem to be an awful lot of people with problems. Unfortunately there's no way to tell what proportion this might be.
Visited Richer Sounds in Holborn this lunchtime, where the salesman couldn't have been much less use even though it wasn't busy. Had no interest in my questions about the 515/616 because they were 'discontinued', despite them still being for sale on their website. Also claimed he had absolutely no knowledge of issues causing people's HDMI connection to fail after waking the receiver from standby. Simply googling 'Onkyo 515 HDMI issues' and reading the results means I don't believe him. He was also very obtuse about my options if I did buy one and wasn't happy with it.
Might try Superfi in Camden over the weekend and see if they're any more use.

The comments on the HDMI reminds me that it was a real pig trying to connect my HTPC to the amp. Couldn't get the resolution to autodetect in Windows 7 or Ubuntu (many long frustrating hours of customising xorg.conf, putting in custom scan rates, spoofing EDIDs, etc). It works fine with Windows 8 but something to bear in mind if you plan to run a PC through it.

This whole business does sound like a proper pain in the tits. You'd hope that the newer models would have solved the problems with a PC connection, despite them seeming to introduce a whole load more.
Main motivation for this (even above surround sound) is to avoid having all the usual crap connected directly to the TV, especially when phone/tablet apps mean you can do without needing line of sight between yourself and the devices.

Yep, I now have one HDMI going to the TV for everything (and one universal remote for it all too)

Hello All.
I'm on the hunt for a half-decent separate phono stage.
I had a NAD one that inexplicably died. No Idea why. Anyone got any ideas what might have fuckled it so I do not repeat? I left it permanently switched on. Then moved house one day, pre-amp wrapped in bubble. And it never worked again.

has it got an internal fuse?

Hello all, I'm also after an analogue tuner / amp combo. Preferably one not so analogue that I can't plug a mini double jack into it for other sources.
Something like a Rotel for about £30? There's a couple on ebay, but one's way above my budget and the other's in Nottingham...

saw a couple by tool place on brixton station road not sure how much though.

Do you still have the wallwart PSU for it, and can you confirm that the PSU still works?

Not exactly audio (but partly, and I couldn't find a more appropriate thread).
I've run out of HDMI inputs on my amp. Any suggestions for an infrared HDMI switcher, at least 4 inputs? When I google it I just find a load of generic brands, nothing I recognise. Any potential EDID issues to be aware of?

JBL OnBeat Xtreme. Clever DSP and amps, which apparently adjust the sound to account for the FR of the drivers.
Maplins and a soldering iron :-)
