  • @StevePeel Smsl Q5 Pro HiFi Stereo Audio Digital Amplifier

  • Smsl has never failed me, ever.

  • Ah cool, just the job, thanks.

  • Just saw this on that SMSL amazon listing - the Topping went wrong after accidentally pulling the power cable when moving it. Must be a thing.

  • Might mean you simply need a new one.

  • Well it seems to have brought itself back to life. Weird things happening with the setup, if I tell the TV to use the optical output I get some awful distortion, but if I set it to the tv’s internal speakers it outputs perfectly to optical. Meh, it works.

  • Meh, it works

    Count your blessings....

Though......... its now no longer an excuse to tinker.

  • Why the kids standing not sitting???

What is with this generation?! My generation we'd be lying all over that sofa! Kids today...

  • Suggestions for a decent but cheap DAC? Specifically (ideal specs) USB-C Input for connecting to my mac, an optical in for TV and RCA outputs. Looking for the neatest solution. My little Fiio Alpen is finally starting to show it's age and cut out occasionally.

  • I'm picking up a radford STA25 tomorrow - pretty exciting.

modern ss class a amps and TOTL bang and olufsen to full pipe and slippers valves and tannoys in a matter of months.

  • Very nice. Heirloom stuff that.

  • they have a reputation for being amazing with tannoys, but it will have to be good...

  • Should keep you warm this winter!

  • it was a bit of an impulse buy, i'll admit. good price and recently recapped and checked over by the dude that sorted my unisis.

I have heard one before with 12" tannoys and it was sublime, so i figured i would try it with mine and not be at much of a risk if i want to shift it on. probably a bigger risk of not being able to shift the EWAs if i want to keep it.

it's 500mV input impedence, so i hope my current pre will not be too meaty for it.

  • It’s magical!

  • Sounds good then?

  • I’ve had a few hours at low/moderate volume and a quick blast at ‘fuck off loud’ and I love it so far.

Much better than the EWAs at low volume. A bit less control of the bass (expected) but really amazing mids and highs. Huge scale and soundstage.

I need to do a bit of swapping in/out and longer listening.

Sarah is a bit pissed that there are glowing bottles in the front room again.

  • Ooooo pics!

Also, how can someone not like it?

  • you don't have kids, right? :D

  • Do they also glow?

  • When they put their little fingers into shiny exposed electronics, yes they do!

  • it has 8 valves vs the 15 in the unisis, so it doesn't get anywhere near as hot, thank fuck.

  • Anyone interested in a used Denon UD-M30 with the mission made bookshelf speakers? The volume dial doesn't work but the remote does. £50 collected from Woking.

  • Annoying thing about the Chromecast, with Spotify, is that you can't start a playback session from a computer...

They've fixed this now, can connect and play directly from the desktop app, OSX at least
