Thanks . An integrated amp connected to 4 speakers with some kind of streaming device connected is probably what I had in the back of my mind

Removing all the cables / power leads & unplugging it all from the mains for a while fixed an issue with my old Sky setup years ago too I recall - was in a rage on the phone to tech support as I was in the middle of watching some vitally important Finnish 3rd division women's football match or suchlike, after frantically shouting at the guy that I had turned it off & on 10 times already he told me very calmly & politely that I had to take all the cables out and unplug from the mains for a few minutes to let all the electrical components properly discharge or something to that effect - then he stayed on the line making sympathetic noises until I was done faffing around down the back of the tv & sure enough it worked a charm, I was tempted to to lie & tell him it didn't work then hang up, but by this time he was probably marching round the tech support office in his pants giving out high 5's so I couldn't take that away from him.

What a total faff. May I introduce you to the Bluetooth EarStudio ES100? It's great. Really, really great.
-
• #7137
No faff. Plug the thing into the thing, leave those connected then just plug the lightning plug into the phone. No lossy Bluetooth. This is a home setup, nobody with any decency would use open-backs on the go.

I've had the same exact same setup - I personally think it was a faff versus the lovely little ES100. It's great having nothing plugged into a phone but still be able to use a pair of wired headphones/earphones. There's a reason the ES100 has actual rave reviews. It's ridiculous value for money. My favourite audio purchase ever - genuinely. I can leave my phone sitting anywhere in my apartment and just walk around. Not tethered to the device and it's really nice.
That's partly what I meant earlier about Darko.audio needing a pinch of salt. He's very quick to support brands like Audioquest or Chord - who do sell snake oil products to an extent, but ignores smaller brands pushing more interesting innovative products.
He made a video saying 'I no longer use a dedicated DAP on the go 'cause I can use a dongle with another USB dongle attached to it.' Just seems kind of archaic to me. Bluetooth isn't what it used to be. It's really very good.
I'd also be genuinely interested to know whether your ears can tell the difference between your setup and an aptX/LDAC bluetooth connection. I very much doubt it. Especially with a pair of SR125s.
BUT with all that said - just my opinion and each to their own :-)

We’ll never know how aptX / LDAC sounds in comparison because iOS doesn’t support it without guess what - a plug in dongle, so if you’re using an iPhone you’re getting AAC compression. There’s also the inconvenience that I would have to remember to keep that Bluetooth box charged as opposed to the dragonfly always being ready to go. So I’m glad your setup pleases you so much, but it’s not for me.

Is es100 worth the money of the fiio offerings? any experience there?
im also concerned about the faff between pairing it between macbook and iphone and switching regularly between the two..

I look at my CDs and it's mostly dreck.
With some stuff people did compilation/mix tapes for me thrown in. So sentimenal, but still dreck. -

My experience with a laptop maybe slightly different as I use it wired when at my desk as to charge it. Though for what it’s worth it can connect to multiple devices at once. So no switching necessary.
I’ve not heard either the BTR3/5 I’m afraid.

is that a style of music?!

For me, NAS->laptop->DAC is a better option than something like a Brennan.
It's much more flexible, much less prone to redundancy, you can chose your own software and interfaces.
I ripped 1000+ CDs using dB Poweramp which is a decent bit of software. Yeah, there are quite a few I've never listened to but there are many hundreds that I have listened to, and still do, regularly.
My sources of music:
Ripped CDs
Internet Radio (Fip Jazz, Fip Groove, occasionally Radio Paradise)
Vinyl
DAB (Radio 6 Music)In approximate order of decending usage.
Nothing with Numb first thing in the morning.
