  • I wouldnt have thought so as it's electronic dance music... So it's imported and bought likeiit would've been done here in the 90s. On vinyl. The only difference I can see would be the tastes would vary. So what's popular there might not feature here and vice versa.
There was a genre, funky house, that seemed to be different to what was here at the time.

  • There's just so much of it about, chasing down specific 90's mixtape contents is way harder than finding some new stuff that floats your boat now. We're all different in terms of what we want from music though so maybe it's worth it for some.

  • Totally agreed.

Its also forced me to branch out. I'm trying different stuff now.

  • So.... getting my downstairs (house not euph) rearranged and not sure where the optimal place is for my stereo. Actually, not a fucking clue where it should go. Feels like this is an opportunity to get things planned and built in properly. It previously sat on a cabinet in our middle room (dining) but was under used as the room was only really used for eating and I couldn't be bothered to faf when eating, had a job to do.
Bit of a rambling semi question but would love some folks ideas/inputs on where to fit the record player etc so its accessibly and useful.
    Floor plan if it helps.
    TV in the front room.
Study is prob best bet but planning on a large chair in one alcove and a computer and desk in the other.

  • Yeah that's super similar! Cheers for the reply and pic, thats defo an option altohugh I fear having too much "gubbins" in one room (yours looks great, and I can see a cheeky iMac in the corner too).

Need to get measuring too as we have a chair where your record player is currently too.

  • Tough, but you never know. My boss has found quite a few of the tape packs from raves he went to on YouTube. I assume the UK 90s rave scene was a bit bigger though.

  • That would be awesome. I need to hunt it down first, so wouldn't be for a while.

I should probably also double check my dad doesn't have a portable tape player knocking around.

  • 6 months after my arcam p85 went and took my tannoy driver with it, I finally found a new driver. Fitted it up and the right channel on my a85 isnt working.

    Argh

  • Can I run a technics 1210 without the phono pre-amp shown here? Im guessing not because there’s no ‘phono’ channel on the amp itself?

  • I don't think it does. Unless the 'disc' input has a grounding post I think it's all line level inputs. Great amp though.

  • disc is phono on some of the older english amps. as above^ if there's an earth peg i'd try it through disc

  • .

  • Right then. If one was looking for a one-box super amp, containing streaming DAC, compatible with all the things, and phono stage with a budget of £2k, what would one consider besides:
    Auralic Polaris
Naim Uniti Atom (but would need additional phono)

  • Another approach would be KEF LS50 wireless / active. You'd need a phono stage but that's about it.

  • Oof, just been reading about those! That looks like a great solution.

  • Yeah, I'd go down that route/something similar.

  • Glad to see this thread exists, as I've just become a card-carrier.

I've just inherited my Dad's Sansui AU717 and my Grandpa's Sony PS-LX5 turntable, and I've paired it with some Kef IQ5s and a Yamaha Music Cast.

Sadly, the turntable isn't behaving well, anyone got a recommendation for a repair?

  • Yo! How's it going dude?

    You still dishing out hugs?

  • I'm good man. Long time! You still near the Electric Shaver building? Still dishing them out. Life sucks without hugs.

  • Nah, I'm in Marylebone now - moved away from the previous role 😁

Glad to still hear you're on board the hug train, are there still SE drinks to deal them out?

  • Hello @se1derful - I still reminisce on the time that I missed the last train home and you graciously took me in for the night. I must have been like ... 18 then. Sccaaaarrry.

  • Aren't you still 18?!

  • Sadly SEs is dead.
    Long live SEs.

We should try do a one night revival.
Keep your eyes on the thread.
