  • Intrigued as to how other people use it though.

My current phone has a tiny memory and won't let me save to the SD so my use has changed.

    Before I'd listing equally in 3 ways;

    1. save lots of music locally, mainly in semi ad hoc playlists
    2. play one track then the radio run
    3. Listen to "discover weekly"

Now I listen to a few specific tracks via my Google home mini as a bedtime prep and then discover weekly - as this downloads automatically filling almost all my phone space.

  • It's more to do with the available space for mounting, length of shaft, shaft pattern to match the existing knob, connection type. Maybe I'm overthinking it but any time I've gone looking for a volume pot it's been quite a lot of work.

  • Anyone jammed any of the pioneer SA range of amplifiers; like an sa500, sa608 or 8500. I want something silver and shiny.

  • My neighbour has a small electronics workshop and showed me how to open it and and we have cleaned it using the ports in the pot and turning a lot. He said it look pretty clean for a 40 year old amp so not worth disassembling the pot unless the problem reoccurs.

If I do sell it ill obviously include this info when listing. Don’t think I can actually bring myself to do it though. Too pretty.

  • i had an sa-9500 for about 10 years and i was the absolute tits. stupid prick for selling it.

  • Has anyone heard these incredible McIntosh amps? https://audio-database.com/MCINTOSH/amp/mc275replica-e.html

  • And again

    Lozzles

  • i have a dilemma. at the moment i have two set-ups and they both sound amazing, but i can only have one and the one i want doesn't work.

the tube technology unisis into royd minstrels sounds sublime. it has amazing midrange and a bass that defies physics, but lacks the big, bold sound of the tannoys when they are singing.

the EWA m-50 seca pre with the push pull power is amazing into tannoy eatons. it has a grip on the big speakers that the valve amp just can't cover. problem is that it doesn't fit onto the shelf. it also may be a bit too powerful for the eatons and is probably the reason i goosed a tweeter (costing me £250 to sort).

i really want the valve amp into the tannoys to work, but i think it is too much of a good thing and the warm, lush sound of amp is too pipe and slippers with the tannoys. on the other hand, the ewa into the royds is sharp, crisp and also good, but a bit bright (and also means the tannoys would go).

do i give up on the tannoys and stick with the tt/royd combo or do i go with the ewa/tannoy (with a pita shelf extension and the pop risk)?

i have promised jamsandwich the royds, dso i need to make a decision sharpish.

  • haha! nothing like the same argument.

    troll!

  • Except I just couldn't with audio. I experience the music far too much.

  • i can get them to run windows, right?

  • Fucking Hell!! don't start here as well , look at the carnage you've caused with the Watch buffs .
Got us all turning on each other.

  • I've got one of those in my loft. Along with an old Trio that's in the same brushed finish.
    And a pair of Sonabs

  • Audio is also very much function over form (mostly).

Just ignore that the function is nearly entirely subjective at the cork-sniffer end!

  • Nice. I don’t even have a turntable to use this with.

  • Pretty little rig.

  • I guarantee my cats would try and sleep on both of those.

  • As I’ve got older I’ve become far less tolerant of bright, fatiguing sound, so something to be aware of is that your needs will change over time.

But I don’t understand the question - what power stage are you using with the EWA-50? And could you try something similar to drive the tannoys that fitted on the shelf and won’t blow the speakers up? Perhaps audition a Luxmann 590?

  • Hi guys,

I've got a two speaker setup at home with a NAD Amp controlling everything and relaying sound to a two bookshelf speaker system.
I have a vinyl record player, CD player, Minidisc Player and occasionally I connect my Cayin N3 (not that should matter).

Anyway, I'd like to have more bass, what would be the best upgrade route?

  • Bigger speakers

  • Not a woofer of something similar? (incompetent here !)

  • What do you have at the moment? Speakers and amp
