  • I have a pair of made in Europe, Mission 700’s, 25-75w/ch shelf speakers I’m looking to get rid of. What would be a fair price for them? Any advice appreciated, anyone interested?!

  • I bought it on eBay. Just before I went to pick it up, the seller emailed to say they plugged it into the mains and it went pop. They didn’t change it to 240v after bringing it from Japan in the 80s. Balls.

I spoke to the SL10 guru and went for a look. I offered them about half what I originally paid for it. A bit of a gamble but the fixer man reckons it’s a steal.

It has the 310MC cart, which is supposed to be good and quite sought after. I’ll probably flog that to find the repair.

  • More importantly, it fits on the shelf

  • It has the 310MC cart

Are new cartridges readily available? I read that they are not that plentiful.

  • According to the bloke that is going to repair it, the Audio Technica MM carts are as good. You can stick posh styli in them too. The mc output on the tt is gash, so I’d rather MM.

There are plenty of options about, you are just limited after a certain level. Why would you want to put a £1000 cart on a £300 turntable anyway?

  • Nobody thought those turntables were any good at the time, so I'm slightly puzzled as to why anyone would now, apart from perhaps thinking they are kitschy cool?

  • We'll see - it sorts a space issue out for me, so i am prepared to give it a go. I paid fuck all for it, so (provided it isn't too much to fix) I shouldn't lose any money on it. People love all the 70s Jap stuff, so i would not be surprised if i make a few bob.

  • I'll also add that your post should state that nobody IN THE UK thought they were any good, because Linn/Rega were the only turntables in the world that could reproduce music at the time. Everything else was crap.

this will be my third 70s jap turntable and the other two were excellent.

  • Fair enough, mine was a Rega 3.

  • the 310mc cart that came off this little sl10 is absolutely awesome. it has never been off the turntable and is in perfect nick (until I put a tiny scratch on it mounting it into the p-mount adapter - fanny!). the stylus is nice and clean under the scope too.

I have it on the sl1210 at the moment and it is really really good.

I just hope the deck can be fixed. if it sounds half as good as this I will be stoked

  • Anyone interested in these rare old Ikea speaker stands? These were a pain for me to find years back but now surplus to requirements...

  • I’m temporarely moving in to an appartment with a sonos system.
I’m asuming there wont be a turntable and records then... What do I need to make use of it? Streaming subscription? An app? Can I bring an old ipod with my own music on?
    Cheers.

  • Can normally find 3 month's free Spotify. That makes Sonos pretty straightforward.
If you're only there for a short while I'd just do that.

  • Will do that. Thanks.
Spotify comes with an app, right? So I cast from that app to Sonos, yes?

  • @drøn
Spotify has an app, but the Sonos app links to your Spotify account so you only need to then use the Sonos one

  • Oh. Cool.
    Thanks very much.

  • I find the sonos app to be very clunky. I only use it if I want to turn speakers on/off.m. I just use Spotify to play music.

  • Chromecast Audio has been discontinued. Get them while you can!

  • Bugger. Let’s hope they continue to support them as my whole house is wired up with them in mind!

  • @drøn
Yep, Spotify app will play directly to your Sonos speakers. No need to use the Sonos app.

  • When the Sonos support for Google Assistant is finally launched (soon soon) I will probably have a surplus Chromecast Audio for sells.

    $ 1,000,000

    Get your dibs in now.

  • Let’s hope they continue to support them

Ummmm, this is Google, not Microsoft.

  • I know...

Hmmm will have to rethink what I do in the future.

Anyone know any alternatives? Has to have the ability to work with google cast...

  • They say app support will continue. If (when) they get discounted I might pick up a couple more for future projects.

  • Already discounted in the states. Worryingly out of stock in the UK google store...
