That’s super, thanks, I’ll try that. I have a couple of decent mics in the house and tuned my car stereo installation with a pink noise generator and EQ app so I might even try that too.

I've been using it for a while with one of the calibrated mics. It's easy to overlook how important the calibration is. For example I use that mic with pink noise generated by the mixer at events but I have to compensate for the mic characteristics where REW will use the calibration file provided by the mic manufacturer so you can easily forget it's doing it. As far as I know it's impractical to calibrate a mic outside of lab conditions.

Is anyone interested in some Q Acoustic 2050s? I've got a near mint pair just sat around taking up loads of space in my living room.

That's not very helpful I realise, but if you're up that way, you can have a poke around.

Nope, not Audio Pro. Just had an email from Sweden, they have no links to the company.
Only web reference I've found was a pair for sale in Poland for £16.

Newbie is newbie question - I've got a small cheapo amp hooked up to speakers with an chromecast audio feeding it. I leave it on 24/7. Is this stupid/damaging?
-
• #5037
My amp doesn't even have a power switch. You'll be fine.

I've had issues with class D amps failing and I do switch them off when I'm not using them now. class A or AB you would definitely want to switch them off just to save the electricity.

Did a bit of swedish googling and found this
Also a thread here: https://www.faktiskt.io/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=31336
Seems to be ok but not great.
Also worth noting that the current Audio Pro brand has nothing to do with the old Audio Pro. Someone bought the brand a few years ago and are now selling half decent kit, but nothing like the old hifi stuff they used to do. My brother in law has loads of stuff from the 80s and 90s, incl a sub the size of a fridge!

Wow, that's great. Pity they aren't part of the 'new' Audio Pro, I thought I might of found some really good retro speakers.
They want £50 for them but I'll pass in that case.

I do this myself. Forget its on. Hasn't burnt my house down yet.

Old, proper Audio Pro, would’ve been a great find

I keep my eye on this Charity Shop. They do house clearance and some really good stuff turns up.
Last time I was there they had a really good old Tannoy speaker in but just one of a pair and didn't have the other.
Ho hum...

Free Rotel AMP...

Sorry for being lazy and not trawling through the thread but does anyone have a recommendation for a hifi repair person, ideally SE London? I have a slightly damaged channel selection switch on my HK amp and want to get it sorted.

Found an original pair of Wharfdale Diamonds unused, still in the original boxes for a fiver in a charity shop the other day. Didn’t buy em as I already have loads of nice enough but nothing special speakers clogging up cupboards.

So i bought a little Cyrus 8 power amp on ebay, arriving later this week. Spent half the day today looking at sound isolation feet for the speakers today as I’ve managed to convince myself that they’re leaking mid-bass in to the suspended wooden floor.
Really looking forward to getting everything set up on the weekend

A hole in the mid bass is more likely to be room mode (if within typical domestic size range).
You might be interested in downloading REW and running the room simulation. The software is free and you don't need any extra equipment to use the simulation. You can set the room size parameters to match your room and move speakers around to see what sort of dips and bumps in frequency your room/speaker combo might create. I've found it's pretty accurate for predicting bass bumps.
The maths involved isn't all that complicated but it gets easier to calculate the db increase from proximity and standing waves when you've been doing it for a while.
