You've probably already tried switching channels and positions to check it's not the amp or room position right? I managed to burn a coil in one of my PA speakers and it took a while to decide it was a problem with the coil. If you press lightly on the cone you might hear a little scratching.

out of phase? Try reversing the speaker wires

Depends on the top coat, you'l l probably have to chemical strip them first but a water based wood dye should work. There's loads of shades of dye. You should find more info on the techniques under table top restoration. Just don't sand them, you'll end up having to grain fill the veneer at best, worst case you'll never get the sanding marks out or sand through the veneer.

Yeah I’ve tried a few things like that from needle to speaker terminals, need to double check the positioning before I start taking it apart though. Can’t understand why the treble and bass are affected though, in a 2-way box!

Erg... That sounds like a pain in the arse.
Maybe I'll just call it a patina...

Good work on the alternative ebay...

P85 on eBay to match my arcam a85 amp. Do I need the power amp?
I think so!
Perhaps my downstairs neighbour thinks not.

Bollocks. When to my favourite charity shop and they had a single Tannoy M15 speaker marked up at £5.
Asked the staff if the other one was tucked away somewhere but they couldn't find it. :(

Any recommendations for a streaming pre-amp? Ideally something with a DAC built in... I'm currently running various inputs into a Harman Kardon amp and Celestion speakers, sounds great but my digital sources are up and down.
Have been looking at the yamaha WXC-50 pre-amplifier which seems to do the job I'm looking for but what else is out there that does the same job?

Gotta say this looks good value. I don’t know anything else that will compete against it at the price.
-
• #4938
Yeah it doesn't look bad does it. Although in my head it isn't cheap as I was first looking at a Chromecast audio, then the Yamaha wxad-10 to start with - which does some of the same stuff but not as much, for half the price...

Network streamers rule. But what’s the difference between the two Yamahas? One has a pre-amp?
-
• #4940
Between the 10 and 50? The 10 is basically like a souped up Chromecast with a DAC, it'll let me stream / play stuff but has no inputs as far as I can see.
I think the 50 allows me to line in from TV etc as well

I've got one of those and I'm very happy with it. Sounds good to my ears.

Without spending fuxkloaxs of cash, how can I output apple TV (which now only has HDMI or optical outputs) audio to my vintage amp? I don't want a new amp.
At some point I'm buying a new telly, but seeing as I don't watch live telly very often, I'm very tempted by just a monitor. What are my options:
Airplay express
Some hooky eBay Chinese neet audiocast puck
Network streamer

Is the amp near your Apple TV? If you’re trying to achieve what I think you’re trying to achieve, an HDMI audio extractor could be an option. This is just an example of a cheap one on amazon. Lots of people make ‘proper’ ones. Kramer, Exxtron etc.

Very near.

• #4946
Yeah, that’ll do the trick. Apple TV>HDMI>HDMI Extractor>RCA Cable>Amp.

Great.
I also found my raspberry pi as I was putting some stuff in a cupboard.
All the optionsg -

My Apple TV goes into tv via hdmi. Then headphones out on tv to amp.

My current telly, old no Freeview tuner built in plugged in or aerial used, has audio and headphone outs. However, when I've previously used the audio outs my amp feels buzzy to touch and that is not good. The plan is to have a box that can do the streaming and the apps, rather than a telly with a tuner, and audio without buzz to my amp.
One of my floor standers sounds ‘boxy’ compared to the other - less bass and less treble. Any ideas what’s wrong with it? I’m sure it was fine before we moved house but it’s not had much use in the last year.
