I’m not sure I’d want my nice speakers in a pub
^this ! cc. @BRM most (nearly all) people don't give a shit about speakers and would have no idea that you could buy speakers somewhere other than Currys or Argos. Seriously, don't be surprised if someone puts their hand through the driver or pokes the cone with their finger just because...
There's a reason hire equipment is so expensive, and it's because it normally comes back broken because people (and punters) don't know how to look after it.

You might get away with it. It's a small place, if you get a dozen people dancing the rest can still converse without screaming at each other. Personally I find it difficult to manage decent music sequencing and still party so my 40th I let one of my mates do it. If you put a 4k rig in there it would probably be chaos.
I would still consider speaker damage, it's a mystery how people do it but Freddo is right, something normally gets broken. Scratches are standard but people trip over cables, fall onto speakers etc. I did one last year where some guy came running across the dance floor with his hand over his mouth only to projectile vomit all over the singer. Luckily the singer provided a decent shield for the mixer.

Richie, just hire a PA dude. Couple of half decent full range powered speakers on stands at head height and simple mixer with a bunch of inputs. Loads of places will deliver and set up & collect as part of the price. Means you don't have to worry about packing up your precious stuff whilst shitefaced. Minimum hassle.

Had a look at those Logitech harmony remotes, fuck me £200 for an all in one!!!
Got me itching for one though, running audio through an Av amp is a ball ache when you try to balance levels for Spotify/Netflix/usb stick in back of tv/ and PS4. -

They're pricey (although I have an older model which is only about £100 and does the same job https://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Harmony-Ultimate-software-required-Black/dp/B00C80JFSS ) but work very well.
Mine replaces remotes for TV, AV amp, Tivo, lights, Fire TV, Minidisc, Freeview, xbox, HTPC, HDMI switch and integrates into IFTTT and Alexa.
Setup is pretty easy and it's very customisable, you can even load up custom icons for the different activities, backgrounds, etc.
It means that someone can just press the button called "Watch TV" and it will turn on Amp, TV, HDMI switch and Tivo all to the correct input which means people other than me can actually watch TV.

We've got one of those but teaching anyone else to use it is near impossible. The Sky touch remote is better for ffwd/rew too and the other remotes are never too far away as problems need to be solved on a regular basis. As a plus, if you're in front of the TV for a few hours a night it gets easy enough to do what you might want to do without paying it too much attention. Setting it up to switch between boxes/apps and controlling AV fairly seamlessly. I'd say if £200 is a big deal then forget about it.

Does your AV amp not talk to the TV? Ours turns on with the TV and the TV remote controls the amp volume through the HDMI cable.

Nah mine is pre hdmi, was thinking of swapping it out for an upgrade, but it makes no sense as to in good working order. It kind of works as I’ve got tv optical cable to amp and everything else is hdmi into the tv. I also have them optically connected to the amp, but I don’t bother with switching inputs now..
might do if I had the universal remote..@Airhead, I’ve seen a couple for about a hundred on eBay so could stretch to that, I generally baulk at hundreds for a nice to have rather than essential..

The Amazon one above is £100 and when the firmware updates it's the same as the latest model.

I thought of you actually. Just wrote a massive description of them on my phone which I lost when it crashed uploading All The Photos. Will write again later....
It’s the bell in e1. Small place we have hired.
It’s my 40th. I want to have the vinyl option so a few pals and I can fuck around and play some Rick James. I have used my brother in laws set up in a tent for a party and it was fine.
It will be background music for the most part, with dancing later in the evening hopefully.
