Yeah no doubt it’s a minefield! Thanks for the tips
Thanks a good option @Fatberg I guess I could always look at doing something with my raspberry pi to the amp and then controlling that with my phone.

Dood. That is quite a set-up.
Like the horizontal doggo legs encroaching from stage right as well.

I want to get an amp and speakers for home. I’m tired of not hearing music properly and want a good full Range. I’m not an audiophile but want to hear all of a song, in reasonable quality.
Don’t know my arse from elbow. What way should I be looking for a nice entry ish setup, do I need a sub or are floor standers enough?
You don't need a sub unless you're watching Die Hard, just get a decent pair of bookshelf speakers. Budget floorstanders often sound muddy in the mid and top ends. Given that you're mostly listening to streaming audio via bluetooth I would go for:
Monitor audio Bronze 2
Decent (ie. heavy) stands (don't skimp)
Any decent two channel hifi amp (£100+) paired with a decent bluetooth receiver (£50+) or
A Tangent Ampster (£150) -

oh, and... don't forget to spend time figuring out your speaker placement in the room.

Thanks for the tips. I think I’ll go second hand on eBay as I should be able to get more for the money.
Thanks for the link of Bluetooth recover. I did wonder if there is a way to use my raspberry pi with Spotify and then connect that digitally to the amp, using my phone to control it this might give better quality. I’ll research it.

I used to stream to an iqaudio dac, which sounded superb. I just couldn’t get on with the rpi because I’m not a computer nerd. Look them up on art Of sound.

Not all Bluetooth receivers are equal. You’ll need support for Apt-x and Bt 4.2 for quality. Optical out might be helpful for you. Also the DAC is important, the one I linked to has a Wolfson chip.
I have one connected to a Cyrus DAC. Use a high quality audio stream and it’ll deliver incredible quality compared to a raspberry pi or chromecast.

Good to know, thanks very much.

chromecast is the easiest...
-
• #4664
You'll also need a phone that supports Apt-X for that to make a difference (Apple phones don't, some but not all android phones do). The new technology is Apt-X HD or some Sony codec whose name I can't remember.
Personally I'd go with the Raspberry Pi option coupled with an optical output (this kind of thing https://www.hifiberry.com/products/ ) to the amp. It doesn't tie your phone up (other than for control) and is a bit more versatile. Loads of options such as http://www.pimusicbox.com/ to install on there.

Looks like a moon to me.

That's no moon

Does chromecast still need an additional application to be installed on your phone/tablet?

Did someone mention chromecast audio
? I fucking love chromecast audio! -

Google home app

I was going to suggest that if it's just Spotify rather than downloaded music.
(Although my TV chromecast is a fucking nightmare and playing Netflix is more akin to starting a BL built car in winter.)

So did I until my fucking Plusnet router borked it! Think there's a fix but I can't be fucked with it.

It needs one to set it up, then you just bust out the Spotify straight from your phone.

Go to your router selection drop down. Unselect your router and click the funny named 'router' probably starting with a.something.
Reminds me that I haven't posted a pic of my setup since getting the turntable back up and running.
The TT is in a temporary plinth (some old kitchen worktop) whilst I get around to organising tooling etc to make a proper plinth for it.
The Phono preamp is new - a Tisbury Audio Domino, as is the cart - a Denon DL103R in a Midas alu body. It sounds fantastic - a big improvement on the DL110 I had before.
