what BRM said, plus what is it sitting on?
a wall mounted shelf can make a difference.

Thanks. I'd completely forgotten about that site. Having a look now.

It's on a a freestanding cupboard at the moment, but the issues are way beyond that. I think it must have taken a knock whilst things were moved around and something is way out of line. I'm waiting for some child-free time to have a proper look at it.

Is it one of these?
Technics RS-620US / 620 / RS-620U -

Could well be - they seem pretty rare (and pricey).

Any good? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Technics-Cassette-Stereo-Deck-RS-263US-/322423256761
Needs a new belt but there are other RS-xxxx models on the Bay for similar prices

What's a good small(ish) active speaker. Is it too much to ask for white wood rather than something plasticy?

Or you could try to seek out a Sony professional

Thanks all for the cassette tips. I lust after the Sony TC-D5 field recorder

Q Acoustics 2020i. They came in white. I've got a pair but never taken them out of the box. Just never know when you might need a pair of half decent white bookshelf speakers though.

Check that the deck is level and set the tracking weight once it is. Quite often freestanding furniture is not at all level. Anti-skate usually doesn't completely screw up the sound but get that set a shade under the tracking weight. Could it be room positioning of the speakers and what exactly do you think is wrong?

You definitely have it going into a phono input or phono preamp (and switched to MM or MC depending on the cart)? Rather than a line level one?
Can you describe how it sounds?

Talk of deck levelling and time to flow stuff again:
I have a Rega turntable wall bracket that I got from a mate 20+ years ago, but have never used (I could never find the right spot to mount it). It's in Brighton. Free to anyone here who wants it?
It's the older model that would fit a P3 from bitd : )
Message me if you want the thing... Ta, P. -

So I am fitting out my renovated farm house, and have run speaker cable to every room. The plan is that each room will have somewhere between 2 and 6 speakers in each room, with all the speaker cables running to my tech cupboard in the loft where each room will be set up with its own amp and chromecast audio.
What this means is that i need 7 amps, 7 chromecasts and 28 speakers...I have the chromecasts (got them in one of the currys deals)
My plan is to get the amps and speakers up and running with cheap solutions and then slowly upgrade each room as needed.
For amps I am already using a Lepy mini amp in my office and pleasantly surprised by how it works. The question is what budget speaker options are out there, which are wall mountable?
For now it is more about budget rather than quality, will look out for deals over time to upgrade, bonus points if speakers can be had in white... -

ceiling speakers?
-
• #4094
Good point, due to construction of walls and ceilings these will be wall mounted, mainly in corners of the room, relatively high on the walls ( i know they should be lower on the walls, but have to make them more conspicuous so high on the wall is the compromise).

small cheap new speakers i would probably settle with q acoustics 2020i

I used to have one of these holding up my Planar 3 ... it sounded great!

I'm going for similar - except I'll use active monitors, each with an audiocast attached to it (because I have no desire to hack up any plaster and run speaker cables).
I'll may hack the power cable to run both the monitor and audiocast, and have a single plug (unless i can find an off the shelf product that does similar).

Thankfully i have no walls currently, so can embed everything in the walls... at last count i have 30km of cable going in the walls...

Yeah was looking at those or the Wharfdale Diamond 220
What have you used to set it up?
Goo onto vinyl engine and print off the correct protractor and set it up with that. Get a magnifying glass and really make sure the stylus is set at the correct distance, then align the cart/cantilever.
