probably easier / better to get a separate dac and amp. digital amp will limit options quite drastically.
one of these will leave you enough for a reasonable amp:

Found this on richer sounds website, but realised I also need at least one set of phono inputs/outputs, as well and don't think this has any..

I'd guess one of the Cambridge audio amps would suit you. Keep an eye on richer sounds. Lots of good but cheap stuff

So I had set my heart on the Monitor Audio A 100, which at £150 is a total bargain, but doing my due diligence come across this Nad amp, which does the same things, and a little bit extra, but costs £400
http://www.whathifi.com/nad/d-3020/reviewI'm torn, but probably not an extra £250 torn..

• #3232
I'd get the NAD if you've got the money.
-
• #3233
Or the Amazon one linked earlier.
-
• #3234
amazon one doesn't have any analogue inputs, which I need for new digital deck thingy, and I can't justify spending £350 on a new amp for computer use, £150 I can get round in my head, but not the Nad price.

The NAD is a brilliant amp, but is rarely discounted. USB DAC, optical input and Bluetooth with the ability to drive stonking huge speakers isn't matched at that price level, I replaced my ageing 3150 with one.
The integrated headphone amp is a nice feature for PC use too

• #3236
Is it only for computer use?

Can someone convince me that buying a big monitor, a roku, and hooking it up together with the sound coming through my amp is A BAD IDEA?
How would I eliminate any buzzy feelings to the amp?
-
• #3238
will be hooked upto computer in study, already have an AV amp in living room, which is driving big speakers for TV, network streamer, and ps3. So A100 would play music, watch films on, make more bright times mixes, nothing more, that I can forsee
-
• #3239
yeah the lack of discounting on it, is what's pushing me to the A100, which was released around the same time, and the same price point, but can now be had for half of that...
If I knew the Nad would be discounted say for Christmas, I'd hold fire, but that's not likely to happen.. -

I was lucky, Sevenoaks had them for £250 or £300 last Black Friday, but seemed a bit of a spur of the moment thing, they weren't promoting them or anything
-
• #3241
But the A100 looks WANK.
-
• #3242
It's all hotel lobby curves.
-
• #3243
The NAD is very good, we got one a year ago to replace a project amp that blew the transformer. I couldn't find a decent alternative with digital input. Usually it doesn't get discounted but they bundle it with speakers.
-
• #3244
disagree, the 3020 sounds mushy compared to a modern amp like the arcam fmj a19
-
• #3245
aaand the lenco is back. The planar3 sounded tinny and lifeless. Disappointing.

I've got a mix of really old Amp/CD/Cassette/Record deck cobbled together years ago with some floor standing speakers. All decent stuff in its day.
The whole set up takes up loads of space and has cables/phono ins/outs 'round the back' that spiders have visited more often than me.
I'm looking for a simple 'up to date' replacement solution.
WiFi speakers ?
I am sure the solution is out there but Google research and a lazy trawl through these 123 pages hasn't really helped. Thanks

Depends entirely on what you have to spend...
-
• #3248
Can you give me an idea of the price range ?

Can you give me an idea of the price range ?
Cheapest is keep the kit and buy an Chromecast Audio.
How much money would you like to spend?
£30, £50, £100, £250, £500, £1000 etc, etc...

If you really have no idea, have a chat in a Richer Sounds shop, will give you a good idea of what your options are
- All in one system (includes speaker)
- All in one player (one box but separate speakers)
- Separates
That, your playing habits, your budget, your room and new/second hand preferences will determine what can be recommended
- All in one system (includes speaker)
No idea if that suits your needs or its quality.
Its probably shit.
