I hooked it up a few minutes ago. There was sound though there was an electricl hum coming through aswell. Im not sure how your supposed to 'earth' it so it could be an easy fix.

Should be a sep cable for earthing or it's fine thorough din/rca. Does it spin at therefore speed and pick up? Where you moving to, I could pop over to check? I still don't have the 1200 I was going to sell to you back!

Here you go. Marble block under the turntable for placebo effect isolation.

Ohhhhh that looks good. Thanks for that. Had a look at new record players in richer sounds and they all look crap.
Got a text off a pal today though, he's found a limited edition Braun 500 turntable in rosewood, price is not insane either. If I get more work this month I might have to buy it. -

Nearly got everything set up, just need some speaker cable!
-
• #2883
WTF is it with tapes?
-
• #2884
I quite like them! A lot of bands make them because they're so cheap compared to vinyl but you still end up with something physical to hold and look at rather than just uploading a CD to your computer and forgetting about it.

Spread those speakers apart, else you're just emulating the sound of a blaster.
-
• #2886
I eventually want to have one on either side of the chimney but will just move them further apart for now!

• #2887
cheers, I assumed you would once cabling was available

Looks good!
Once you get the speaker position sorted out you should treat the neighbours to some music.
-
• #2889
...don't forget the bass trapping, ceiling cloud and broadband absorption at the reflection points for your listening position ;).
-
• #2890
There's a lot of music that never made it onto CD or vinyl and there's still bands putting out tape only releases.
-
• #2891
...which is nice of 'em really cos you can record over them! :)

If they're shit that's usually for the best.
And it saves you just keeping them in the car if you don't have a tape player at home (and an older car.)

Next door is a lady in her 70s who's either completely deaf or too polite to say anything about me constantly having loads of people over well late (I am an awful, awful neighbour).
Whilst I'm in this thread, whilst my amp and speakers sound really good, there tends to be a bit of a crackle when I turn it up loud. Any ideas what might be causing it?
-
• #2895
Little old lady next door is really hacked off so is spooking your amp with her super-crackle-powers?!
-
• #2896
Fuck, could be. Maybe she thinks I'm secretly one of those "bloody migrants" she brings up almost every time I speak to her.
-
• #2897
... or maybe you misheard and she's got a "bloody migraine"! :)
-
• #2898
You could be right.

hey,
need a CD wallet, that accommodates both the inlay AND the tray sleeves. Need to cut down on jewel cases for space reasons, but want to retain the entire contents of the cd case.
Any recommendations available in the uk? internet not complying today.

Probably the wrong thread for this, but I just saw a lovely turntable in my local charity shop, a Pioneer PL-12D, only entry level but I recall these were really popular in their time and sounded great and now going for £15! I would've snapped it up but already have too many turntables... Someone give it a good home, if anyone's interested it's in the Emmhaus charity shop by Chrisp Street Market.

I've got a cd like that.
