Sounds like a ground loop. Happens when the earth on two devices is connected, but there's a slight difference in the "potential" between the two which means that current flows down the earth wire / shielding which is usually mainly comprised of 50Hz hum.

What can I do to get around/avoid it?
Not plug telly in?

'Buzzy' feeling, it could also be the fact that if neither the Amp or the TV are earthed (fitted with a 3 core mains cable) the 'floating' design of the PSU in the TV is causing the casework of the amp to 'sit' on an AC voltage.

I've had this happen to me when I fitted a DC power supply to a Bass Guitar effect pedal/looper. The PSU was purposed for an Iomega Zip drive (5V at 2A or so). What I didn't realise is that DC level was sitting on an AC level of ~55V or so! I got a tingle (buzzy feeling) whenever I brushed against anything that was proper grounded.

rod's the broadcast engineer, but here's a possibility:

neither the TV nor amp have a 3 pin (LNE) connection to the socket because they're modern double insulated devices. The TV has more (relatively) high power rectification requirements, and probably doesn't have the quality of build the amp does. So harmonics are produced that are not adequately absorbed by the TV and they leak along available connections as they seek a path back to the general mass of earth.

Possible solutions -
provide earth path back to mains for TV and amp
connect TV and amp together with shielded RCA connects
insert RLC attenuator between TV and amp
install a common 230VAC power supply for the TV and amp

I'm currently spec'ing a complete renovation of house, so am trying to future proof it tech wise, but on a very tight budget, one of the areas I am desperate to get in is multiroom music, and I think I have found a solution, going to buy all the parts for one room and give it a go, but thought people may be able to spot an obvious flaw in my plan...

So I want to have every room in the house wired up to receive music which sits on a plex server, as well as be able to use things like Spotify and TuneIn radio, and I would also like the ability to set up zones, so I could have the whole of downstairs as a zone or just the kitchen and dining room etc.

My solution to doing this is to use;

A Google Chromecast Audio linky
Plugged into a mini amp Like this or a bigger one in the main living room (these could also be updated...)
Connected up to cheap bookcase speakers Like this which will be updated at a later date to something much better once I find eBay bargains

All speaker wire (will use decent gauge) will be embedded into the wall as it is going to need reboarding, so should look nice and tidy. Main rooms may even have a dedicated 7" android tablet to control the media from, potentially attached to the wall (but that will come later)

Assuming I only put two speakers in each room I should be able to get this up and running for less than £70 a room, unless I am missing something obvious?

Ha! I'm spending all my time trying to work out how to turn a farmhouse built 250 years ago into a modern smart home...

I am therefore ignoring the fact that the external walls are falling down and instead focusing on audio and ethernet cabling as I can deal with that!

They are the important things. How else will you google "why is my roof falling in?" or "do I have trench foot?"

Rather than carving into the walls is it possible to some kind of floating floor with all cabling and outlets coming up from there - borrow from office layouts?

Good question. Well we will be trying to put in underfloor heating, so i'm wondering if I can sink some strong conduit into the screed for that, and then just push cables through that as needed.
Walls are going to need a fair bit if straightening, so suspect I may end up building internal timber frames, so another opportunity to hide stuff there.

Any cheapies on Amazon should do. Gold plating does mean that corrosion is less likely.

Definitely do it with conduit so you can theoretically change cables in the event of a failure or upgrade etc.

Yeah that was my thinking, want as much as the wiring as possible to be able to pulled through and replaced.

Gonna be doing the same thing myself soon enough. Looking at the options and Chromecast Audio seems like the perfect solution for anyone on a budget. Been using it here on our old dumb stereo and it is certainly good enough quality for the equipment and my fucked ex-drummer ex-DJ hearing...
