  • Apologies for late night spelling mistakes

  • I have an old Nad cd player (monitor 5000) that is free to a good home. It has a tendency to skip and sometimes outright refuses to play a CD but sounds nice when it does work. Let me know if you want it.

  • Apologies for late night spelling mistakes

that's fine with me. thanks for the lesson, it was a good read.

  • finally been sucked in and bought a hot-rodded one of these little babies! prob paid a bit too much, but it has been serviced, recapped and upgraded . sounds fantastic. clean and classic. 1975.

now i need some tannoy hpds.

  • ...which means my ever faithful pioneer a400 and tannoy 605s are up for grabs is anyone is interested. i have a CD player, too.

  • My rega arrived last week.
    So nice.

That Pioneer is a bad boy.

  • Hoping to finally get my LP12 out of storage and back in use.... It'll need a service...any recommendations? I'm thinking Billy Vee? Also, any idea for something to replace the knackered K9 cartridge? Up to around £400..... And what about the Lingo? Worth splashing out for??

  • Cartridge wise what voltage does your amp phono input expect moving magnet or moving coil?

  • Hi, guys what are these speakers, I found them in my father in laws loft apparently they were quite space age at the time I'm guessing they have some retro appeal. The speaker wire has been cut and I have no idea if they work.

  • According to Google, they may be JVC GB-1EDs from around 1975

edit: Scratch that, they have four feet, not three.

  • Or JVC VS-5313?

  • MC or MM ... Exposure 7

  • Also, on the ball speakers, i've found a catalog entry for the 7000s here:

Might have some info you need for re-wiring etc.
There's loads of catalogs here: http://wegavision.pytalhost.com/grundig.html

  • Hi, cheers they have a rubber that looking at the cat pics goes around the centre but they are missing the chrome band. I will most probably stick them on eBay unless someone here wants to make me an offer. They are outrageously heavy I thought the first one had got stuck to the floor, anyway cheers guys they look like they have a bit of a cult following along with Eames and Co.

  • @windym

The Grundig ball speakers are amazing. No idea what they sound like though.

Saw some a couple of years ago when wandering around shops in Berlin. They also had ceiling hanging models.

I'm tempted to make you an offer. Where abouts are you, London?

  • Hi, Im in Harlow Essex these are needing a rebuild I guess and I have no idea if they work in their present state please bear that in mind, having said that after looking on google I found a pair that sold for over £1000.00 obviously fully working so there may be some mileage in restoring them.

    Andy

  • No

  • I've heard good things about Graham's Hi Fi so it might be worth giving them a call.

  • @BRM how much was the sexy pioneer?

  • Thanks. I'll give them a bell...

  • it is a little bit embarrasing - quite a bit. i had to do a bit of man-maths to justify it (ie selling other stuff, etc). i have always wanted a 70s set up and this was going to be a keeper so i went for a top of the line job that had been restored.

  • Ok. I feel your pain.

I'm tempted to sell the Cambridge amp I have and have something with knobs and switches.

  • i decided that it was absolutely necessary after checking my bro-in-law's old rotel & celestion set up.

  • @damo come around and check it out, once i have it sorted...
