Only remember the fear of trying to get clean sound on final year films. No one had enough money to re-record if it wasn't good. So lots of playback to make sure there was nothing errant or obtrusive in the background.

The only amp I have with optical in as well as stereo line in is an old TV 5.1 surround one a Pioneer VSX-C301, which currently drives 2x Goodmans monitors my partner got from a bbc mcr clearout.
It is on its way out, dropping one channel intermittently so looking to replace with a hifi amp. Any entry level recommendations?
Usage=
Optical input for Pi Digizero (radio streamer box)
CD
Mixer (for the Vinyls)
LaptopTa.

Yamaha AS301 is excellent for the money. Doesn’t have USB in for your laptop but would still work if the computer has headphone out.
Hey have you googled Goodmans BBC monitors lately? If they’re the LS3/5a type then your partner has done very well!

Thanks, looks ideal and the phono input plus multiple line ins frees up the mixer tbh.

These are slightly more recent (I think) Maxim 2's. Defo from the BBC, see picture.

Can someone recommend a budget turntable for my 16 year old, who has a small vinyl collection and the record player they’ve had for a few years has died? It’ll be run through a small Denon DM41 with speakers which I’m assuming means the turntable would need a built in preamp (I know very little about all this obvs)?

Budget? Something from Dual or Pro-Ject would probably suit:

Edit: Might be overkill, didn't read the bit about phono stage being required. Pro-Ject do a cheap one but that might be making things a bit too complicated.
Audio Technica LP3 has a built in pre amp.

Here's the Pro-Ject phono stage:

Thanks. Budget is as little as possible to be honest, but without buying tat.
It seems like £200 is about the baseline for this? I’d also read about the Audio-Technica LP60XBT, which has the phono stage built in and also BT. Any thoughts on something like that? Would prefer to avoid a separate pre amp.
Also happy to go second hand, but have probably left that too late

£130, built-in pre-amp should connect straight into the back of the Denon

Sony PS-LX310BT ?

I'd say the Pro-Ject Primary e would be a much nicer proper turntable - non of this USB/bluetooth weirdness.
Yep, you'll need a preamp - but can be had for circa £20 - although for some reason Richer Sounds don't do a budget one...you'll also need a set of phono leads and space for one more power socket plug.

You can get the Pro-Ject Primary E Phono for a bit more which has a built-in phono preamp.

Brought a second HomePod Mini for the office to make a stereo pair, and it much improves the sound. Has anyone played around with positing and/or surfaces to put these on to improve the sound further, as they have a downward firing speaker?

Complete with hi-end price - looks great tho

I’ve a few of the original (bigger) HomePods. They seem to sound better when they’re on a really hard solid surface.

I’ve been working on an all-valve magic eye VU meter for a bit of fun. It’s a pair of 6E1P magic eye tubes for left and right channels driven by an ECC83 dual triode.

I wanted to post a video with some proper music playing but I kept getting hit by YouTube copyright violations. Really annoying. So this is George Street Shuffle which is one of those YouTube no copyright music pieces for content creators.
I’ve got it propped on top of the amp temporarily so I can run it. When I get an RCA splitter I’ll be able to patch it in properly and it can sit on top of the preamp. I would have put a second set of RCA jacks on the VU meter but there wasn’t space in the back of the chassis.
It's properly turned into valve mountain in that corner. Total of 14 valves burning away when it’s all switched on!

Anyone had any experience with Lyngdorf? Contemplating an 1120 amp, seems very well received and very well featured.... Analogue inputs including a MM stage, digital inputs, hdmi, Spotify, roon etc and comes with calibrated mic and room correction system...

No. but I think Darko liked it. think he did a comparison video with the top end NAD?
my thoughts are I would want an audition and do i want all those convenient features or to focus on what i do want and buy accordingly?
as for room correction? if i had a tricky room then maybe but where do you stop? bass traps etc? and is my front end and speaker combo worthy?
there are plenty of streaming amps out there (Naim? Hegel?)

My problem with boxes like that are a decent amp can easily outlive all the other tech.
DSP is very useful to have applied to the main outputs. Apps like Roon can do some pretty complex DSP room correction though.
A decent amp, da convertor and a Pi running Roipeee can cover a lot of bases. A built in phono stage could be limiting too. Plus everything shares a power supply.
On the other hand it's simple all in one and takes up very little room, looks smart and probably costs less than a list of desirable hi fi boxes.

Not audiophile but does anyone have experience of the IKEA Sonos stuff, and in particular how they compare to a Sonos one?
Thinking of getting one or the other for the kitchen.

Merry Christmas to me. Found a pair of Adam P33A's at long last so had to buy them.

I bet the switches and dials felt fantastic to use. Looks like a lovely example of form following function.
