Gaaah I threw away one of these power amps a wee while ago. Partly cos I didn't have any of the funny cables.
I regretted it immediately.

Tempted by this but the special cable issue is a bit of a worry- do you have to use impossible to find cables for everything?

Amp to pre-amp = 4pin DIN (supplied)
Pre-amp inputs on 5pin DIN (breakouts from 5pin DIN to phono/RCA supplied)
FM3 to pre-amp 5pin DIN male-male (supplied)
Mains input to pre-amp - Bulgin 3-pin (supplied)
Mains to power amp - standard IEC (supplied)What's not to like? If you want to get 'fancy' you can still get gold plated DIN plugs etc. but there's everything you need to hook it up in the box, it's just not very pretty.

you're kidding? i'd buy it just to put on a shelf if i had the space...
what's the material/finish on the cases, it's pretty hard to tell from the pictures?

the cases are metal (steel I think), the finish is a tough semi-mat look, like anodising.

Quad rules... Well done to whoever picked it up, they sound amazing...
**SOLD**
QUAD 405 power amp, 33 pre-amp and FM3 tuner all in good working order, checked out by my colleague who is an electronics boffin, all capacitors firing in the power amp. Good condition cosmetically, a few scratches here and there but pretty clean. Random selection of interconnects and the weird mains cables Quad used back then. £120 collected from SW11 or SE1.
