  • I was surfing this afternnon in Florida, out the back with about 10 others when an 8ft spinner shark flew into the air, three times in a row....about 15m from me.

Initially I wasn't worried but as everyone else started paddling for the shore I though I'd better follow suit!

  • shit, good revival.
I've been so fucking busy with work, its been shit.
Plan to be back on water regularly in the new year though.
    yay!

  • Yeah been looking at a friend of mines pics from Corsica and France as he has been traveling around the last couple of weeks has made me wana get out asap.

  • here's a pic from a nearby beach, this is pretty much what it looked like only the surf was bigger!

  • I would love to be surfing somewhere warm and sunny today.

Bournemouth reef is now working, looks a bit crap at the mo (especially compared to kimmeridge) but will hopefully get better as the sand builds up.

my dad's a member- we have a boat there- national 12- but you lot lost our mast.
I spent a week in the back looking for the fucking thing.
My real winter project is finding it, and completely working over the boat so that its fit for usage.
It's going to be my christmas present to my dad.
Which reminds me, I really need to get on this.

  • Sorry about that - I keep on telling them not to play with other people's masts...
Have a look on eBay - I bought a mast for Merlin Rocket last week for £0.99!

    holy hell, thats ridiculous.

I've sailed out on the Thames once or twice, still terrifies me a bit.
I grew up on Exmouth though and the current there is epic.

  • there's mch better videos od boscombe reef on youtube, although rides are short it clearly amplifies the "swell" and actually looks pretty heavy!....what will it be like in offshores?

  • The Reef In New Zealand similar to this boscombe is considered to be extermly shit by friends that live in the area none of them hit the thing

  • I used to live in North Devon. Some great beaches round there, Putsborough, Croyde & Bude.

Does anyone wakeboard? I've been going loads through the summer recently, as my sister works on the lakes in the cotswolds. Great fun.

  • +1 for learning to sail. You get invited to do shit like this totally FOC

    En route to the Canaries

  • Lynmouth, on a huge swell and southerly wind, you can hear the boulders rolling around underneath you!

    Bude is Cornwall isn't it?

  • I'm considering doing some water sports this weekend, but I'm not sure about etiquette. Is it ladies first for should I take charge and just start pissing?

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

  • Summer is defintely showing its lovely head,
I want to do some kayaking, maybe sea Kayaking.

    Anyone keen?

  • yep.
    I'll come with you.
Have a car we can use too, I'm not good but will get better.
Also planning on going on a course for Surfing- anyone know good ones?
really, really want to improve fast.

  • Henners, when you back in the land of the soggy isle?

  • I have sailed all my life. Done a fair bit of crewing on racing yachts (Sigma 38s etc), but my main ting is dinghy sailing. Started racing Mirrors when I was 8. Did all the national circuit stuff, and sailed on the zone squads. Did my time in lasers and radials on the zone circuits too. Sailed Fireballs, amongst other things, after that, and now I'm racing in National 12s.
My current race boat is a Bob Hoare Tigress, which was an absolute state until recently (just finished repainting the hull white), but still pretty rapid. (pics attached, the only sailing ones I can find on my laptop are of it the wrong way up, or sumberged!)

This was an unbelievably windy day (you cant tell from the photo!). Racing was cancelled because it was gusting upto force 9. Managed to dig the bow in going downwind:

I'm an apprentice boatbuilder now, and I love anything wooden that floats. As soon as I'm fully qualified, I'll be living on a boat.

I also surf, and canoe/kayak a fair bit. Basically, I live on/in the water!

I'll dig out some proper photos osf saoiling and surfing later...

  • sam- I need your help/advice rebuilding my national 12.
