With one of these we sailed into the IJsselmeer and luckily made it back after we realised our mistake. The locals were impressed.

Are you not allowed to sail into IJsselmeer? Don't really understand.
Anyway the Flying Dutchman is a hell of a dinghy, proper man's boat, just needed find a gorilla to crew for you.

Look like they retail at about $500 ,so probably, although I'm not a surfer. But it's got a fishtail!!

I think this move has only just been invented:

From my research, the swallow tail is suited better to smaller waves, and its mainly going to be used in Wales so that would be handy i think

I can't even imagine, it seems so mental, the volume of water looks huge? Here's hoping they have a strong line on the helicopter to pull people out, you'd be stuck under meters of current, crazy.

The whole film is amazing. The size of some of the rapids is monstrous!

Rowing, and more specifically, coastal rowing - anyone do it?
Never rowed in my life apart from machines but am good on the water in various other tubs and rather fancy having a go.
Shoreham RC is a quick cycle from Brighton. Will get in touch before long.

I spend more time at sea than I do on land (not hyperbole, I literally do). I'm back in the UK for 6 months over the winter, to save up some currency, then I'm heading to NZ to rejoin Infinity for (hopefully) a couple of years, crossing the Pacific to Chile, via most of the Islands in the Pacific rim, then hanging out around South America.
This is a photo from the last 6 month stint I did, sailing from Australia, around Papua New Guinea, out to Palau, and back in to the Philippines:

Before Infinity, I was working on TMS Creole, as ship's carpenter (I did my apprenticeship as a traditional boatbuilder)
http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lpvnuc4QT01qlsvx8o1_500.jpgMy job included maintenance of Avel too (same owner), and race crew (I'm the yankee trimmer to leeward):
http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lqmxkp8k9Q1qlsvx8o1_1280.jpgI only raced on Avel for one season, but it was great fun. We won les voile de St.Tropez overall, and placed top 3 in our fleet at every other regatta on the Med classics circuit.
Don't know if I've posted any of this stuff up on here before. Apologies if I have.

Amazing, If you're in Cannes soon, let me know, I'm redoing the teak deck seals of our family boat, any pointers?

Sikaflex? Spend the time cleaning the old stuff out really thoroughly, and mask the seams really carefully before starting, so you can apply it, then wipe over the top while it's still wet, then peel the tape off. It's the neatest way of doing it. Don't try and do too much area at once though, just a few seams at a time.

Thanks!
Lame I know but I'm also playing: http://www.virtualregatta.com/index_vgv2012.php
I'm "WhiteSpirit2", befriend me!
I learnt to sail by offering to crew on boats. Perhaps try somewhere local such as Greenwich Yacht Club and see if you can put a notice up on their board?
I've never owned a boat myself but, particularly now I have some sailing experience, the opportunities to sail on other peoples boats are seemingly endless.
Just spent yesterday and today doing the Thames Frostbite Race organised by GYC.
