It's just burning calories / 'exciting' the heart and lungs, in the context of general fitness / losing weight.
You could get all anal and plan something based on the latest fad, but then find out you hate it, and start skipping sessions. Anything's 'effective' if it actually occurs.

I'm not sure his routine has anything to do with his anus.
I think I just suggested he get 'excited' more than once in half an hour for maximum occurring things.

Why waste time when your on a turbo.
No, you're on a turbo.
-
• #1255
Ouch.

Do people stop with the weight training before or during the race season? If so how soon do you stop before the season starts?
-

Ok guys so what are you planning to do over this winter to make you a better rider for
20102013?Reverse periodisation and plyometrics. With lashing of beet juice. At altitude.

a lot more suffering whilst sprinting uphill, did it twice a day for a week leading up to the first autumn omnium last week, came 2nd overall, i've done it everyday since

Why waste time when your on a turbo. It's hardly pleasurable so it might as well be effective.
Depends on your set up mines infront of a TV! ;)
However I'd agree get more bang for your buck. -

Thanks for beetroot tip. Some more on the theory...http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/9226576/Eating-beetroot-may-improve-running-speed-research.html#

No, you're on a turbo.
I do hate that too.... ;)

My winter training shall revolve around strength training in the gym, keeping high leg speeds and track training once a week. I shall also make sure I make time for recovery, which involves reading and watching films.

Yes, who likes being on a turbo when the open road beckons, eh? ;)
-
• #1265
^exactly!
-
• #1266
I suppose it is a good way to work on any imbalance one might have.
-
• #1267
Not sure about that. I've done loads of turbo but I'm still a sociopath.
-

First add some lean muscle to my legs then improve my squat 1RM keeping the BW as is (usually drops a bit when lifting heavy)
Develop the working capacity with lots of intervals. I'll rather do those than ride base when it's cold, wet and miserable. -

Your body weight drops when you do strength training? Are you fuelling your recovery properly?

Ooh yeah, this weeks fashion is fasting.

Let me clarify the statement a bit: When moving from hypertrophy phase to strength phase.
-
• #1272
I see.
-
• #1273
What's the point of a hypertrophy phase for a cyclist (of any description/discipline)? Isn't it surplus mass that will only serve to impede acceleration, aerodynamic optimisation, or vertical ascent?
-
• #1274
For a roadie, none. For a trackie, stronger muscle is usually also bigger. The ultimate goal is the strenth and power, not the size.
-
• #1275
Yes, that's the ultimate goal, so why the hypertrophy phase? Surely the time's spent better doing something else, something you won't be aiming to undo before competition?
