I'm converting my old polo bike (Dawes 531 frame) into a sort of TT-style rat bike. Planning on 5 speed with single front chainring, Cinelli Angel bars with the extensions + arm rests removed etc, so I'm after...
- track or single-speed chainset, vintage look, silver
- a chain, i suppose in 3/32" size
- 27" rear wheel, 5-speed
anyone got anything?
Not to plug where I work or anything, but Bicycle Links will probably have most of this stuff second hand if you're still looking. In fact, I'm bringing in an old Carlton I had laying around at home this week which has an old single speed chainset on it, and we also have a random selection of wheels and sprockets, as well as some cheap new chain? All at very reasonable rates!

I'm only after a chain, back wheel and derailleur now, so I'll give it a try, thanks.
I wasn't sure if you were OK with people taking parts for a build as it seemed like i would be taking away useful bits that could be used to make bikes for those more in need of a cheap transport solution

Nah it's fine, pretty much everything is for sale, there are only a select few things we'll keep aside; silly little parts that nobody would want to buy, and anything ridiculously nice we get in.
We might have a rear wheel, although don't see too many 27"s, most certainly have chain though, and have a selection of rear mechs, from shitty shimano mid-90s things, to old chrome Sachs-Hurets, and even a crazy Campy Nuovo Valentino up on a shelf behind the till. Come in and have a browse later in the week, I'll be in on Thursday and Friday if you wanna have a chat.

Hi Guys,
I've got a frame that I would imagine is pretty much useless, but might be of use to someone - basically I was in a crash a couple of weeks ago (with a car - no damage to my body, but smashed his windscreen with my back and bent my bike...). I thought the forks were just bent, but on closer inspection the next day I realised the frame is buckled near the front lugs. I bought the frame off here a while ago from adamrejzl (here).
Basically I'm going to India next week and either way I'm going to get rid of it; I'll post a picture of the damage up later, but if it's any use to anyone i'll strip it of useful things (brakes, handlebars etc) and you can take the frame and forks and do what you will. Maybe it could be creatively brazed? I don't know...

I might be interested in a few things (cranks, brakes, wheels, spacers) as I'm in the process of building a bike at the moment.

Sorry to hear you had a smash.
Shame about the bike though, I was only thinking about it the last week or so!
Hope you had lots of fun out of riding it before it's untimely end!

Lol. There have been quite a few crumpled bikes on here.

Just snapped the stays on my front mudguard when a big chunk of ice got jammed in it. Does anyone have anything like an sks raceblade or zefal paragon that they'd like to sell me?

Pretty sure we have some old 700c wheels at Bicycle Links if you're still looking?
-
• #1145
Yes, still looking. I was going to pop in and see what you had if no one else had anything. I got the back wheel from you last month.
-
• #1146
Ah I see, did you introduce yourself, and am I being incredibly rude by not remembering? If so I apologise, if not, then come say hi if/when you next come in.
Do you know what kind of wheel you want? IIRC we have a quite nice shallow racing Rigida, some older shallow racing wheels, wider hybrid type things, and even a weighty deep section. That's just off the top of my head though. Oh, we also have a few nicer rims that could be built up if you want, but if you're in for a quick fix that might not be best.
-
• #1147
No, I don't think you weren't working that day. Probably one of the older racing wheels would be fine as it's only going to be a beater. If I have time I may pop tomorrow evening or, if not, Saturday.

OK cool, I'll be in tomorrow evening but not Saturday, as if that makes any difference!
