Bugger, learnt that I need Xbox Gold to play GTA5 online.

PS4 in my hands! Harddrive upgrade done, now installing 1.50 software ... can't wait!

and it's dead. fucking said "Can't find update" and rebooted. Now it just causes the screen to flash, even in "safe mode".

Xboxone then?

Looking forward to my xbox one arriving next week. I had a bit of a wobble a couple of weeks sago but I think I've made the right choice. The games for Xbox are much better (so far)

PS4 is not bricked. It seems the TV EDID might be getting confused.
Helps to have one of your best friends work in Sony Playstation... just off a conf call with the head of hardware.

Solution (for now) unplug tv and ps4. wait. plug both in, and start again. Or use a PC monitor.

Basically, what they're saying is;

ah but it has to be cold. I did restart the tv, no difference. Have to unplug tv, wait 5 minutes and try again.

It's also a very odd set of steps

1- Switch HD without having started it before
2- Insert USB stick with update in the wrong place
3- Update will fail
4- TV gets confused about refresh rate and flashes on and off

#4 will not stop until you hard reboot the tv. Now, booted it on Monitor, worked fine, connected to TV while running, TV flashed like #4. Moved cable back to Monitor, no output any more.

While I've been playing on a dev unit for a bit, I am glad to see the UI is as fast on the consumer unit. One of the things on the PS3 that really annoyed me was the XMB etc... was so slow (and Playstation Store was terrible!)
