(Tested on Emudeck Neo Geo emulator and Metal Slug straight up 2-playered)

  • Lethal company.

    Game of the year :')

  • I finally got my steam deck oled yesterday and so far so good. This sounds weird but the vent smell is incredibly nostalgic, smells exactly like my og xbox and controller I had when I was a kid lol

of course I had to spend a couple of hours last night playing halo after setting it up

  • I had the exact same sensation when my 512GB Shitscreen arrived. It smelled like 90’s laptops.

  • Disappointing, but I keep getting nausea when playing Portal. Same happened after a session of HL2. So I’m forced to limit FPS game time. Shame too as it was a good break from being angry at Cuphead.

  • I had the same thing with half life and half life 2 so I never completed either and never really investigated the cause of it. It was only those and a few other games.

    CSB

  • Causes of motion sickness for gamers can vary quite a lot. I can entirely see why Portal would have effect that effect on some people and I doubt that it's fixable for you with that game. HL2 possibly is, though. Might be worth checking to see how other people who suffered it in HL2 fixed it - those who did - and considering cautious experimentation.

Only ever had one game give me motion sickness (remastered version of Assassin's Creed 3) and it was one particular animation used only in one unessential manouevre that I just avoided while completing. In that game, the camera motion while following the protagonist was mostly just annoying and a bit distracting (bouncing behind him as if hanging from a helium balloon tethered to his waist) but diving through a building's window would always take you though an identical and very accelerated dive->roll->right->ahead->dive-roll sequence with the camera going crazy . Unlikely to ever play the game again because it's more than a bit shit. But I was interested to hear that Ubisoft were releaing a VR-only game and did a lot of work on accessibility tweaks to enable people prone to motion sickness or vertigo to play it. Not because I want to play the game (it's Quest-native and has poor PS2-level graphics to enable a small AC game to run on the smartphone-level computer built into that headset) but because I think those accessibility options may find their way into Ubisoft's flat screen games even if they never make another VR game. Could be good news for some players.

  • I’ve always been an arcade/platform/outrun gamer so never acknowledged that motion sickness was an issue. Growing up with Megadrive and SNES, or playing Gameboy in the car, never once occurred to me.

After multiple times in a row this past week, HL2 and Portal sessions, I realised it was a thing.

Reminded me of 15 or so years ago sitting at a friend’s as he played GoW and a couple other games I used to feel so sick I had to nap. Again, never put two and two together!

I’ll see what I can do, but yea, might just park Portal.

  • You should try Talos Principle.

    That reaaally makes me queasy.

If you can, set things to 3rd person view.

  • Sounds like something to play with the bucket next to the chair...

  • Christ, I make do with just a box of tissues.

  • I had nausea with HL2, especially on the boat level. I think I turned off a couple of settings - was there something like head bob or motion blur. I forget which.
Portal I never had a problem with.

  • Oh hmm. Will have a look. I’ve only just restarted it so more than enough time to fiddle in settings.

  • Months later, but can confirm

    I missed this somehow.
Guess I'll remove IGI Origins from my Steam wishlist.

  • Don't lose all hope, one of the in-development titles was picked up by someone else.

  • Can't see it happening unfortunately. Can't even see 83 happening. Best case scenario for 83 is spend a few years in early access.

In other news I bought Frostpunk last night in the steam sale - think it was a fiver. I installed around 2am and a few minutes later I was fairly happy to let those little shits freeze. Will have to search for a tutorial video I think.

  • Loving Returnal. After suffering past the first boss, beat the 2nd first time, only to die in a silly fashion shortly after.

Gonna fire up FF7 remake and Horizon West over Xmas period.

Is Death Stranding worth getting, as someone who enjoyed MGSV?

  • Is Death Stranding worth getting, as someone who enjoyed MGSV?

If you're a Hideo and MGS fan I'd say yes
I rated it, quite a slow game at times though,

  • Anyone know which fallout game the upcoming TV series based on?

  • All of them/none of them, I think it's just set in the fallout world in LA, so closest to the first 2 I guess.

  • Nuke cola anyone.

  • Nuka!
