There are bosses in this game?
I'm still hitting up every lightroot in the depths. With 3 hearts. I don't know why.
When I had the revelation that the Lightfoot's and temples are at the same coordinates, it did become a bit easier, though, and I didn't have to spank every single bright bulb any more.
As did realising that water in the main level translated to impassable cliffs down below.

Just clarifying on spanking in case you're actually hitting them. You can pick up brightbloom seeds and throw them (hold down R, hit up, select object to throw, release up, then release R when you're aimed).
Had no idea about the water matching up with the 'impassable' bits below. ' = because I've actually found tiny navigable tunnels through several of the bigger ones. I've got all the 120 lightroots but still only 102 shrines.

Because you're doing the TotK equivalent of making a pilgrimage to the top of a mountain on your knees during Lent wearing a hair shirt? Are you not even exploring the things that show up on the map of the Depths? Because there's a whole silly armor set covered in lightbulbs to be found down there that makes relying on brightblooms largely unnecessary. Alternatively, you can make a glow potion from the glowbugs down there.
When I had the revelation
Aye. When I also discovered (quite by accident) that the minimap shows whichever level (Depths, ground or sky) that you last looked at in the main map, regardless of the level you're actually on, I navigated much of the Depths by looking at the ground level in the main map, then running/flying around the Depths with the ground level geography showing in the minimap.

Hah - yeah, I know enough to throw / attach to arrows.
I may try attaching them to rockets too.

whole silly armor set
I have the helmet and 'loons so far. I'm expectantly searching for the tunic.
I should probably do more ultra hand builds though. I all but ignore it at the moment, except in shrines or when building supports for signposts.

I should probably do more ultra hand builds though.
They're mostly of very limited use in the Depths; too many obstacles on the ground for a land vehicle and the wings are a pointless faff. I ended up making crude flying craft with an inverted balloon basket, three fans and a control stick, all of which you can find at any of the underground caches. Climbs very quickly or traverses very quickly if you push the stick forwards. Bugger to land, mind you.

I still only have the basic charge that you start with. I've managed to avoid all upgrades so far. Not on purpose (I'm not that hair shifty), but just haven't progressed any quests far enough, or indeed whatever is needed to upgrade them.
Flying anywhere is a very short trip.
I do have all the stamina, though, so all the climbing all the things.

Now I have a good spec gaming PC, thought I'd try out Horizon Zero Dawn on Steam (with PS5 controller).
- Get to the hunting part of the tutorial.
- WTAF? No gyro aiming? This was designed for the damn PS4, whose controllers definitely supported that.
- Check forums. Threads are 50% "WTF, no gyro aiming? I've been playing BotW for the last two years, gyro aiming rocks." and 50% "I've been playing forever without gyro aiming. Why would anybody want it? Only luzors would ever want it."
- Realise the second 50% are cunts. But since the threads are nothing but arguments between the two factions, they contain no useful information.
- All the online videos and tutorials about setting up gyro aiming on PC make it look like getting Apollo 13 back to Earth was simpler.
- Rediscover that most people who create online gaming tutorials couldn't explain their own name to their identical twin, even though their twin is the only person in the world who wouldn't punch their face throught the back of their head because of their really annoying voice, their intensely irritating personality and their conviction that their voice and personality is what really sells their videos and that the first 90% of the content should be them showing those off.
- Discover that recent updates to Steam make configuring gyro aiming a hell of a lot easier now - if you can work out how.
- Discover that Steam hasn't documented this. Also, 99.99% of all existing online videos/tutorials predate this and so are as obsolete as they are annoying.
- Find a tutorial that isn't obsolete. See point 6.
Oh, well, what the hell. Off to experiment.
Yes, I know the game has "Aim assist". I turned it off. Only luzors would ever want that.
- Get to the hunting part of the tutorial.

Anyone on here played Warhammer 40k Boltgun? I a) remember installing Doom first time round on five floppy disks, and b) spent a lot of time in my local Games Workshop growing up. Seems pretty good? Mind you Zelda takes up all my time....

I've only heard positive things.

how did I miss FrostPunk when it first came out?! its so good!
-
• #28113
Love FrostPunk. It's pretty tough! Took me ages to get past just the first scenario, that sinking feeling when everything is going wrong and there's nothing you can do to fix it is so oppressive, I love it.
-
• #28114
There's more than the first scenario? I barely make it to the 2nd winter
-
• #28115
It is SO hard but once you finally crack that first one it's so satisfying! Can't remember how many scenarios there are in total, maybe five? six? something like that. I'm on the one with the seed arks, which i think is only the second, i just cannot keep those fucking buildings alive at all. Great fun though.

Diablo4 is fantastic but very grindy, if you've ever enjoyed that kind of thing I highly recommend.

@bothwell it took me 6 attempts to get throught the first scenario - I never bothered with religon, and going to bodypit -> organ transplants over cemetry was very useful when everyone was dying!
Also, im ONLY had just enough automatons to take over my coal making to keep everyone warm at the end, i was running on 1hr coal for the last 3 days.good news though

Hahahah I go for the benevolent options, so it's much harder for me! I never put sawdust in the food or send the cops out to beat people up or dump bodies in the snow or anything like that, and it does add an extra level of challenge. I must be some kind of masochist. They must be masochists, exiling me because they want me to agree to child labour and increasingly draconian peacekeeping! Hope the 2nd one works ok on my macbook, the orgiinal does chug a bit, especially when the clock ticks over in the mornings.
-
• #28120
Oh I didn't do child labour, I did had a focus on medical so I did child shelter and then put them all to work in the infirmaies!

Saved the seed banks - but my automaton didnt new to new manchester in time to deliver the supplies to save them oh well...
-
• #28123
you MONSTER those people were counting on you!!!
Saving them is fucking hard. The best I've managed is to get full automation happening, save all of New Manchester right before the storm hits, and then survived until I think one day before the timer for the big storm runs out, like I could SEE the end in sight and I was so sure I was going to win, but NO, disaster cascade at the very last moment. That's what made me ragequit it for a while, I think, lol. I do need to go back and try again, I've just found a notepad where I was obviously writing down the order of operations so I could go again 😆

my top tip, is steamhubs. Put one behind every seed bank (anything you need to keep warm) and only reseach heaters, when the temp drops you can stack the output of steamhub and a heater to the same output level as the main boiler, but for less coal useage. The only main boiler things i do is to make it use less coal. also reseach evuthing that improves efficiency, so coal mines maxed out make roughly the same coal as a coal thumper, but coal thumpers need somone to gather from the piles.

You guys are making me want to give it another go rather than spending an evening cracking skulls in Chivalry 2
If it wasn't clear, the first roomba survived into the second stage. If it hadn't, I would have dropped two during the second half, given all the extra sludge. In both stages, I did nothing but avoid attacks and wait for the roomba(s) to clean him up; then I just ran in and whacked him while he was down.
For the BotW/TotK fans, Dungeons of Hinterberg looks like something to watch out for next year.
