  • it's crazy how much cheaper games are on pc.

Yeah but a modern GPU costs the same as a PS5 and lasts like 2 years not to mention needing to upgrade the CPU, ram, cooling etc.

  • You absolutely do not have to match the incessant upgrade cycle that it's pushed by the market.

I'm still using my PC with i7 processor I bought in 2010, and the SLI 970 GPUs I upgraded in 2020 for £100. Obviously cost more than a console at the time but it's lasted well.
I've played God of War, Horizon etc (all on sale of course) and they look great even on medium settings.

  • Inclined to agree. There's a big push in PC gaming for being able to run things at mega high settings at 60fps, but if you just want to run games and have equivalent performance to console you can get away with a much more modest build.

  • Also - when did light shows start on the cases? I will be in the market for a new PC soon and I cannot find cases that aren't glass, aren't oddly shaped and that aren't stuffed full of LED fans.

I cannot wait for beige boxes to become a nostalgia fuelled trend.

  • They've been around a while on gaming PCs. I don't get it either, looks shit imo.
Plenty of options though. Case I got was
    https://www.fractal-design.com/products/cases/meshify/meshify-c/black-tg-dark-tint/
Which had options for a dark glass side and a metal one when I bought.

  • oh cool they do an "ikea catalogue room" case now

  • I don't hate it.

  • Would be up for a modern take on the smoke stained, grimy beige hulks I used to buy second hand as a teenager from weird 40 year olds who lived with their mums in Havant.

  • 60fps

Uh - exqueeze me. I don't have a 240MHz monitor just to look at moving jpegs.

  • The whole site reminds me of some small Danish office furniture company that is used by every single Nordic start-up funded by an unassuming Swedish pork and cheese magnate.

I keep my PC under the desk and out of the way. All that design is wasted on me. But they are much closer to what I am looking for.

  • The thing is they are available but usually cost more. RGB shit is the lowest common denominator, you have to pay extra to have something plain.

  • I don't have a 240MHz monitor

  • oh cool they do an "ikea catalogue room" case now

And an IKEA/Sonos Symfonisk model too

  • To be fair, I'd much rather have a knock-off Scandi design-esque tower than an RGB lightshow. Last time I was getting a computer that was halfway capable of playing some relatively recent games, this was the least offensive off-the-shelf option I could find:

And if you want to switch off that green light on front you've got to toggle an option in the BIOS.

Then again, I'm rarely on the right side of the argument when it comes to taste or aesthetics.

  • I'd say mid-late 2000s to be honest! Every time I see them my mind goes straight to this:

  • Pft neons

  • I have similar - fractal design case, with solid door.

Inside is a crazed vapourwave disco of rgb from cooler, ram and GPU, yet invisible from outside.

  • I'd much rather have a knock-off Scandi design-esque tower than and RGB lightshow

    This looks like my dilemma.

I'm rarely on the right side of the argument when it comes to taste or aesthetics.

    Lies.

  • I went for a Streacom ITX case when I built my PC in 2016 or so, and modded it to take a small GPU. Small and none of that RGB freak show.
This is still the case I use now, just have to 3D print a new top lid to take the slightly thicker GPU but in the meantime I'll just keep it open.
The problem is these aftermarket cases are always very expensive.

  • On a very tangental note, daughter had some friends over yesterday. They were having a "party" upstairs listening to Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks, Heart etc.

That was a good parent moment there

  • Love is a Battlefield is such an underrated track.

  • The last two posts are the first ones I have actually understood in about 5 pages.

  • Admit it, you were in charge of the Spotify weren't you.

  • I wish my Alienware Area-51 would fit underneath a desk. It is like a giant glowing boulder on the side of the room.
