Those prices in your image (I'm guessing you grabbed from an Xbox Reddit) are wrong.
Watch Dogs Legion Limited Edition £51.99
Far Cry 6 Amazon Limited Edition £59.99Isn't the pretty normal pricing?

They’re from PS5 Reddit...
They’re from Amazon Spain. Sony has a significant market share advantage there over Xbox so why not price gouge.
Worth noting that both versions of the games in the UK are more expensive on PlayStation than on Xbox and that the Xbox version is playable on an Xbox One or Xbox Series X at no extra cost...

Yeah, but tell us how you really feel?

I think the next gen upgrades will only apply to digital purchases, not physical ones.
(Editted for terrible grammar and autocorrect oddness)

I've got no interest in getting involved with a Sony vs Microsoft "which one is good and which one is bad" debate. The pricing of games is something applies spans home consoles, handhelds and computers. And considering out of all the major games platforms today Sony's and Microsoft's offerings are the two that I have no interest it, it would be a waste of everyone's time.

me either but being able to use a PS4 controller on a PS5, but not in a PS5 game when the controller functionality is almost identical... strikes me as pretty anti-consumer also
-
• #23358
You missed out the "not".
It's a meh from me, when have you ever been able to use a previous generation console's controller on the new one?
-
• #23359
Now with Xbox one controllers on the series x

• #23360
I know the PS5 controller has an inbuilt mic and haptics, but wouldn't be too hard for devs to work around that to let people use a spare PS4 controller for e.g. local multiplayer, especially when the controllers already work with the system and are functionally 90% identical. not a big issue for me, but would just be a nice to have and better for sustainability also
-
• #23361
Yeah but that's the first time this has been possible.
-
• #23362
And that makes it okay to use the excuse of generational development gaps to not make it work, only to release at least two first party games at launch which work on both systems / both controllers?
Switch has also made adapters for the GameCube controller to work with some games and we know how shady Nintendo’s practices are.
I would genuinely like to buy a PS5 and play the exclusives I didn’t get to play on the PS4 and the ones coming for the PS5 but they don’t make it easy to like them.
-
• #23363
You can buy 3rd party adaptors to use PS3 controllers on PS4, i imagine PS4 to PS5 once will be available in the not too distant future (perhaps)
Just hoping i can use my G29 on GT7 when it gets released (in 2026...)

Meh. I've never had a problem in the past with new generation = new everything. You had to buy a PS3 and PS3 controllers, games etc. Some games did still end up on the PS2 at the same time for a while but soon it was PS3 only.

I've started with Mario Galaxy, nice gentle intro to the weekend... Great fun!

Right.
So during a global pandemic, with rising costs of literally everything, and a second recession in 12 years, not to mention a climate crisis, we should accept the inability to use peripherals that would be super easy to make work and only aren’t being made to work because the company wants to make a load of money on high markup plastic because that’s the way it’s always been?
I’m sold.

• #23367
I think being able to use your old controller would be a nice-to-have but it's not going to impact my decision about buying in to the new generation of xbox or playstation. Hell come to think of it I have a brand new unused xbox controller in a cupboard that I was planning on selling along with my xbox one before buying the new one.

I hate built-in obsolescence, it signals so much that is wrong with modern manufacturing.
Isn't it likely that people will create interfaces that you can attach older controllers to, or is there no market for that/no sufficiently popular controllers that would make creating specific interfaces worthwhile?

I’m not sure it will be possible as controllers are all wireless which means Sony controls the connection via Bluetooth / WiFi and the console software.
@Sumo of course. No one is making a decision based just on that but it’s another example of their distain for customers in general.
Nintendo are guilty of it too imo, though not quite to the same degree.

Ha, trust me not to be aware of such technical details. Very interesting to think that this may be another reason for pushing wireless everything.

ok sure

- Blocking console cross play (including ensuring epic accounts were locked to PS4 so you couldn’t use the same account for fortnite on any other device)
- Blocking third party subscription services like EA play
- Saying consumers didn’t want backwards compatibility
- Blocking mod support for Bethesda games that was offered on other consoles
- Requiring FTP games have ps+ subscriptions (unlike Xbox / nintendo)
That’s just on the PS4.
Let’s not forget their proprietary memory card formats for PSP / vita etc which ridiculously high cost vs SD cards.

that's capitalism, baybee!
-

Proprietary memory was always an annoyance, glad they made the PS3/4 HDD normal and let anyone change it without voiding a warranty.
Will this be the case for PS5? i vaguely remember some patents for plug and play expansion ports, wasa that nonsense?

The internal drive (for both PS & Xbox I think) are custom nvme drives for this gen. Likely either non replaceable or soldered but I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
Sorry but carrying on the anti consumer Sony rant; Demon Souls and FFXVI were announced in Sony’s press conference on Wednesday to be launching on PC as well.
Good thing.
Next morning, press releases for both state this was an error. Square Enix were needlessly vague if this was truly an exclusive: “we have no further information on if Final Fantasy XVI will be released on platforms other than the PS5”
Which means they’ll release it just after a few people buy a PS5 to play the game.
This also comes fresh off the back of them criticising the decision by Microsoft to allow development of cross gen games in order not to force people to upgrade. Saying “generations matter” and that any cross gen games would suffer.
Role on Horizon 2 and Spider-Man 2 - both coming to PS4 and PS5 on day one.
Fuck. Sony.
