Looking forward to Super Mario 3D All Stars coming out! I never played Mario 64 (cuz I bought the OG PlayStation) or the first Galaxy game and it'll be fun to revisit Mario Sunshine... A bit annoyed Super Mario 3D World is getting reissued instead of #2 coming out, that might be my favourite Mario game ever... Let's see what Bowser's Fury is all about...

Part of the key to big combos is establishing a big base score too... a 30x multiplier on a 1000 (flip trick?) point base is a 30,000 combo, but on a 10,000pt grab becomes a 300,000 and so on. Definitely lots of grind tweaks help bump the multiplier. Starting the combo with a special flip/grab, or if you can hold the balance, a long special trick grind can really make difference later on in the combo. Going from 29x to 30x multiplier is less effective than putting a chunk on the base trick score.

Skip the special grinds, they make the meter go bananas. Incorporate as many flip specials as you can.

Couldn't resist and got THPS Remastered too.
Managed to almost 100% first one (56/60 goals) in about 4 hours.
Highest combo 270k so far (obviously in The Hangar as it's the best level :)). Still got it, but fingers feel a bit rusty.
Love the game, just some of the modern music tracks are just absolutely horrendous (thank god you can manually remove them).

I'm having to stay away from THPS - played it so much at the time, then went out skating after - would make me too sad to not go out skating now (too old and unfit)!
In other news - ever wondered what ex-footballers do when they retire? Apparently £20 wagers on Warzone :-)

Just hit 1,339,500 Combo. Took more effort and swearing then it should have.
Just a tip for high combos - when grinding, manualing, lipping you can double tap spam your trick buttons.
So when in manual on the way to a ramp/rail, you can do few extra tricks for extra multipliar points. -

I've been trying to get used to using the shoulder buttons for rotation so I don't screw up a grind by pressing sideways but my brain just can't handle it

About 7 hours later.
Had to google one rooftop gap out of three from THPS1.
Was trying to find it legit for about 30min and just couldn’t. Wouldn’t find it without a guide...

roof drop to rail?
edit: just hit 100% on both too.

My high score is around 3.5M currently.
The only thing I'm struggling with is that damn secret tape on venice. Is it just a case of hitting those tables?
-
• #23237
Oh yes and even then took me about 15 tries...

I did it by using one of the hexagonal ramps (there's few around). It doesn't look like it, but it gives you quite a bit of air.
Took me few tries, but not too hard.

the little table almost directly below it, level up your air, ollie and speed, get special, aim for the middle of the table and boneless as if it was a kicker, should go straight up to it.
Took me maybe 3 goes once I figured it wasn't from the roof. -

Thanks guys - I'll give that a go this eve!

if you boneless a few frames later than you think you need to you'll get a little more upward pop

Just unlocked Officer Dick and I think I might be done for a while with THPS.
25+ combo, no grinds was tough, getting Sick combos on 11 maps was a bit of a chore.
I must have bailed the qualifying score on every level at least 5 times before landing it. -
• #23243
Funny, I think we both unlocked Dick around same time.
I was losing my will to live at "Dirty Rail" challenge (not sure if everyone has the same challenges). For 45 minutes I've been working on 75x combo challenge, but best I could do was 71x.
Also probably done with it for a while, but definitely good game to have on drive for 30min play when bored/between other games.

Still grinding away at Warzone - had a long session yesterday, no wins as was playing with randoms (other than a few games of solo's) but did have some good moments.
One game I managed to shoot a guy out the sky with my pistol as we were flying down from the plane - he was seriously unhappy about it!
A couple of other trio's games I managed to get full team-wipes on my own as my useless team mates were faffing around trying (and failing) to be snipers.Paddles on the back of the controllers and clicky triggers is the way forward, they make a noticeable difference in quite a lot of plays within the game.

have been having a lot of fun with a riot shield/swords build in trios/quads play in Warzone. Restock for stun grenades.
You'd be surprised how many people fixate on the guy walking towards them behind a shield while the rest of your team shoots for free. Little more satisfying than the howls of anguish when you wipe a whole team sat round a corner. Blessed to have a relatively consistent group to play with though as, is hell when you get stuck doing the above - sitting on top of a building with a melee weapon isn't the most compelling. -
• #23246
Oh that was you was it! :-)
It does look like fun if you're with your mates just messing around. The riot shields seem really flakey in terms of protection sometimes though - sometimes they're like a brick wall that stops everything, other time it's like you can shoot straight through them!

Looks like it’ll either be good fun or totally and utterly shite.

Hmmm looks like basically Steep 2. I enjoyed Steep as a PS+ game but wouldn't have felt happy paying full price
-
• #23249
why is there no switch version of spelunky 2 ?! criminal

Seems I lied about THPS1+2
PLayed it last night as Tony Hawk and completed his challenge set.
Now need to do it for 1 more Pro and get the Legend trophy (comically before i will get the Veteran trophy because the party mode is glitched and i cannot cheese as i don't have a 2nd controller)edit: you can remote play on your phone, and use the controller as a 2nd player and cheese it that way, who knew?!
PC game pass price has just doubled (out of beta) but still great value.
