Just bought an Xbox with Battlefield 1, DOOM and Rise of Tomb Raider. Was planning to while away my sunday shooting things, however instead I'm DOWNLOADING UPDATES. I miss cartridges.
My xbox name is photobenphoto.

So steam link.
Anyone have one? If so what do you think?
I see they are now selling for around £35 which is enough for me to want one to play PC games in the living room.Additionally how do they work with an xbox 360/one controller?
-
• #16133
I have asked the same, they work great on wired, less so wireless...

Anyone know if the Steam Link only works for Steam games or does it mirror the screen generally? What if something is launched from Steam (e.g. kodi)
-
• #16135
Almost certain it's the whole screen. I'll check when I get home as I finally got around to reconnecting it yesterday after tidying it away while decorating etc.

Cheers, it's a bit unclear from when I've googled it.

I remember using Steam streaming over my wifi a couple of years back.
Despite having pretty fast wifi, games did look rather ugly.

You can load other games/apps, but you set them up to load through steam.

I did it recently... from decent PC to my iMac, only played for a few mins but looked ok, but 1080 rather than the native 1440... would prob be fine on a TV...

My network is all wired so I'm hoping speed shouldn't be an issue.
I'd read reviews where accessing other stuff involved launching Steam, launching something from Steam, minimising it, etc which sounds doable but a bit of a faff.

Wait.
The Last Guardian is actually coming out?!
What the shit?
Now I need a PS4, balls.
-
• #16143
Yes it does. Although the basic formula doesn't change much, I think the basic idea of forcing you to think rather than react in blind terror helps loads.
Its kinda broken but I won't tell you why as it kinda spoils the game
-
• #16144
Cheers for that. I am sticking with it although I am getting chewed on a fair bit. I see your point about forcing the player to think instead of react. Although if that was the intent then the balance feels wrong to me - either in terms of enemy movement, weapon power or character movement.

Really enjoying witcher 3, think I made the right choice as there's plenty of story and I get a bit bored playing game without a narrative. I'm playing on Blood & Broken bones difficulty so fighting has been a bit unforgiving and the load times when you die are soooooo long! It's taking a while for me to get the hang of using signs whilst fighting too but don't have any complaints so far.

^ read up on some of the builds you can do using toxicity and decoctions. they can get bloody powerful. only really touched on them during the final DLC but tempted to run through new game plus with a potions build now.

Thanks for the information on the steam link guys. Looks like I might have to get one then. The reviews on the steam controller seem to be really hit and miss - although if I'm going to play something like cities skylines then it might be worth having?
To be honest I'd really like to try one before purchasing. Most of my gaming (when I have a chance) is done on the xbox now so I'd like to make sure I'll be happy with it.

PS4 controller is supposed to work with steam link now. If you do need a dongle I think any bluetooth one will do.
xbox one controller should work wired, haven't actually tried mine yet. Not sure about wireless although I'm pretty sure if it did it would require the proper MS dongle.

The new Xbox one controller (white one) is Bluetooth so works without dongle.
All others require wire or stupid Microsoft dongle thing. -

Dishonored 2, PC or PS4, that is the question.
Sure, why not! Thanks!
