  • So, completed Path of Exile. Its a bit anti-climatic? And then straight back to the start. Don't think I'll be bothering to start again tbh.

I like the new game mechanisms, but seems like a slog to try out another combination, with no idea if combos will work. Obviously you could follow a guide, but at that point you may as well have a normal skill tree a-la D3. Similarly with the skill-gems, its great but it doesn't make me want to start a new character because its just a slog to lvl up and there is minimal reward it feels.

Also, yeah its free, but the number of times I died because of lag got a bit boring, and this will only be worse in NG+ with deaths having consequenses

  • Have you played any maps?

  • No. But I feel like its going to be more of the same? I guess the variety of DS has spoiled me for hack and grind games

  • I played PoE some back in beta and really enjoyed it, but haven't found the time to start again and I keep hearing similar criticism like yours.. DS as in Dungeon Siege? Which part are we talking?

  • So I borrowed LA Noire rather than buying a game. Win.

Should I be doing these side quests? They're a bit annoying but you get some sort of experience. Is it just the intuition point thing? I haven't used those yet. But haven't had to... Maybe I will later?

DS as in Dark Souls, which is obviously a completely different style and pace, but I found the challenge far more rewarding.

I wish there was some form of testing arena, where you could start with 99 passive skill points, and any skill gems, so you could at least experiment with ease, before playing a real character. Otherwise the 'build a unique skillset from over x00 skills' becomes take a punt and hope that the points you've ended up at aren't entirely useless.

It was a fun run through, but nothing to make me want to go through it all again

  • Dark Souls isnt really my cup of tea. Honestly I don't think any future hack n slash rpg will be able to get me hooked as Diablo 2 did. I still play some hardcore characters at every reset and it's a lot of fun every single time!

  • I also felt like they cribbed a lot of the zone designs from D2/3 which was a bit lame, and that they could have done a load more with the Maori tale, which instead kinda peters out. I'm not sure any game will grab me as much as D2, because I just don't have the time any more

  • "Welcome to the Steam In-Home Streaming Beta"

    Sweet

Didn't get much chance to mess with it last night. It took bloody ages to get my PS3 pad working on the laptop.

The streaming setup is really simple tho'. Just launched big picture mode on the laptop and the games installed on my main PC were all available.

Gaming experience isn't quite there yet though. Image quality is fantastic but there was a significant amount of lag, enough to make playing something relatively leisurely like Tomb Raider kind of uncomfortable. I'm running this over powerline ethernet adapters, which claim they're doing ~170Mbit, however the steam diagnostics said this was more like 15. It also said latency was ~125ms of which over 100ms was 'display', which presumably includes the streaming. Weirdly it said ping was 20ms, which seems high considering I get half that with speedtest.

Seems very promising though. Gonna see if I can blag a long ethernet cable from work and test it with that instead of the powerline things. If it's significantly better I'll have to start thinking about ripping half my house to pieces to install one permanently.

  • Glad to hear your thoughts brun. I think it'll be the future of pc gaming, that and occulas rift.

  • So I've got a few pc bits I want to get rid off. Wondering if I can freebie them to you lot first...

CS Source - CD. Might be useful for those with a naff internet connection. As mine is linked to account I don't need the disk anymore.

Medal of honour - Pacific assault

GTA IV - For the PC £8.

Also one of those intel CPU coolers - are they worth anything?

  • is medal of honour mac compatible do you know?

  • Received another The Elder Scrolls Online beta invite for upcoming weekend. I don't plan to play so if anyone who doesn't have an invite wants to give it a go drop me a PM.

  • Hmmm tempted kind sir

  • is medal of honour mac compatible do you know?

Read the box and I don't think so. Unless you run windows on it of course.

  • Dark souls 2 spoilers everywhere! Seem to be entire playthroughs popping up on youtube. I'm determined to do my first run totally blind after using a guide for demons souls and summoning for dark.

  • ^Yep, not sure if I'll manage as I probably wont be able to play it for another year or so! I still think I'd recommend a guide for a first time player, but definitely want to do it blind this time round

  • Started Space Marine last night, a dirty hack'n'slash, not bad for a few quid especially if you're into 40k

  • Put skyrim back on, I've got no idea what I'm doing.

  • Skyrim was so disappointing

  • I was really into skyrim for a bit, then I took an arrow to the knee.

  • Last time I was on here, had a moan about games being too short. Then I picked up Skyrim by mistake, 'just in case there was some downtime over Xmas'. WTF has happened to my life since then? A grown up adult chasing orcs with a sword and making enchanted armour for crissakes! Why did no-one warn me?

  • I've got Skrim sat there ready to do once I've completed GTA, Space Marine, Red Dead, COD Ghosts, finished my book, cleaned the scum from around the little stalks on the hob, passed on my genes...

  • Need a hand with the last one?

  • More the merrier m8
