I've got the Lazer Blade RD. Not so many vents but they are massive, and very effective. It comes with two sets soft foam inserts of different thickness to help you get the fit right.
But like Hippy says its all about the fit, so try some on.

You're a helmet...
Catlike Whisper Plus? They have them in 14, about a million* vent holes
*There's not really a million vent holes

Whisper plus is well over 100 clams.
The Catlike Kompact Pro comes in closer to 70, i think.

It means nothing if they don't fit.

HTFU and carry on with your current helmet. It's getting hot and you're gonna sweat like a motherflipper whatever you've got on.

Apparently, a helmet doesn't save your head if you fall off anyway.
I'd not bother if I was the OP. -

I've heard this too... I think most of the fixie kids are going with asymmetric haircuts instead.

Prendas currently have the Whisper on sale for £99
Just got one from Wiggle. My head is long, narrow and 59cm so in-between sizes. The helmet fits (just), but is not perfect.
Take Hippy's advice, and test before you buy. Not sure if 5 minutes in a shop will compare to a long Herne Hill session in the sun (or your not doubt more strenuous commute), but better than nothing.

First time I wore my 2D helmet was the first time my head did not overheat- go for a lid with as many well thought out vents as possible, and that fits as comfortably as possible (as others have said).
I expect that other companies do something similar, but after my last head/tarmac event I rang Specialised- they said to post them the lid and replaced it for £50 or so, which I thought was good service.

Anyone know which store (not online) stocks of a range of Catlike helmets in London, apart from 14 which just have the whisper? Wouldn't mind trying on a some.

It's all about fit. Get one that fits YOUR head at your budget. Sorry, this means going to a shop and trying some on.
what one would fit my head the best given my hair colour?
