    Apology accepted.

  • i see, well congrats. bit strange it didn't include utfs htfu +1 cunty bollox apple pie midgets or fixie.

  • Does now. :)

  • apple pie midgets?

  • TTID. Of course, as hippy didn't post it in this thread, he doesn't win anything. :)

  • Actually hippy didn't get it... I checked and verified it in the system... dicki got it.

  • Recount!

  • Does this mean that there is no santa clause?

  • No, it was definately Hippy at the time.

  • Isn't it going to be approximate anyway since people can delete posts?

Anyway, it's clear to me some funds have changed hands between dicki and Velocio.. :)

  • No money changed hands, though it's a good idea and if anyone wants me to rig it then I'll take bids.

I counted by simply asking the database to give me the millionth post that is still visible (not been soft deleted by the spam detection engine or anything like that).

I can run the query again but it's going to give me the same answer.

Why could you be wrong when you witnessed it at the time? Because the stats on the home page are cached for up to 5 minutes as they don't change so frequently and aren't so critical that I want to re-query them every time the page shows.

Hippy may just have had the last post that you witnessed before you saw the stat refreshed. Just to confuse things further... the stats are different on server #1 and server #2, so depending on your IP address you can see different things from other people... this is just because the 5 minute refresh thing depends precisely on when the server was brought online and the 5 minute thing isn't precise... the first request after 5 minutes refreshes the cache, so the timings go out of sync.

Anyhow... database doesn't lie, but the layers of caching can be misleading. Dicki does have it.

  • The differential at 8am was 10351 posts.

At 3:23 it was up to 10357 posts which was used to reward Hippy.

It's now 10365 which points to Dicki.

It's your system so you know best.

But Hippy is my winner, as his post tripped the count to one million.

Not that anyone seems to care this time around.

  • Spam deletions all day long (I do actually log on quite a bit most days to deal with spammers, gives me stuff to do in meetings).

Stuff is auto-nuked a lot too.

I simply put faith in a SQL query that removes the guess work.

  • who was 999999 and 1000001?

  • 1 million posts!

Do I get fries with that?

Actually hippy didn't get it .. dicki got it.

    Hahahaha.

    No soup for you!

  • Foiled by inferior stats.. pah!

Soft deleted? You mean they're not deleted, rather simply marked as deleted?

What happens to posts that are deleted by users? ie. what if I go and delete 1000 of my earlier posts now? Are they actually deleted or just marked as deleted?

goes to find vBulletin sql injection vulnerabilities

  • I don't physically delete anything. Not even spam. It's just filtered out of the results sent to the pages. An "active" flag if you will.

Keeping it means that future spam detection is better.

  • Figured. Our old cms doesn't do that..
"i've just deleted something and didn't mean to.. can you get it back?"
"no, type it again ya plonker"

What's the millionth post including spam? :)

  • edmundro post contains cunt. Total winner!

  • So how close did hippy get to 1,000,000, then?
