Far-i Dub in all its glory - yes higha! Didn't know there was the vocal one on youtube, only ever heard the dub of this.
Seen that Roots Rock Reggae documentary before, my mate had it all on DVD was meant to watch it but never got round to it, now he's gone off to China for a year. Might have to buy it, there are quite a lot of parts to it aren't there?

Augustus is noted for everyting being the same but this is a good one -

Know what you mean about a lot of it being the same but the style makes it, all of it quality jam out tunes. You see a lot of people playing melodicas now because of him, at least he didnt die because of someone else like King Tubby. Good selection that ^, know I've posted it a couple of times but still ever present.

LEGACY IN THE DUST
The Four Aces Story by Winstan WhitterFUNDRAISING SCREENING, Followed by a discussion with the director
Winstan Whitter and special guestsIn the 1960’s Mr. Newton Dunbar came to the UK from Jamaica and founded the first
Reggae-oriented music venue’s called ‘The Four Aces Club’, which for some 33 years was
home to the most influential black music and musicians to date (Desmond Decker, Jimmy
Cliff, Count Shelly, Ann Peebles, Percy Sledge, Ben E King Billy Ocean, Bob Marley, and many
others) Despite its success it came under fire from the local Police and was forced to close its
doors in the late 90’s due to a compulsory re- possession ordered by the local Authorities to
make way for the regeneration in Hackney for the fourth coming Olympics in 2012.Promo Link:YouTube - Legacy In The Dust 'The Four Aces Story' Promo

The Promo only cantains exceprts from Newton Dunbar's interview. The film contains interviews with a large number of producers, musicians, selectors and clubgoers from all the eras of the club, like Bunny Lee and Fatman, Lloydie Coxsone, Ari Up, Dennis Bovell, The Prodigy, Tippa Irie, Don Letts, and whole crowd of people who raved there.
Worth mentioning that the club also hosted the Legendary rave night Labyrinth for years and years. Prodigy played their first gig there, and the birth of the breakbest, junglist and DnB and dubstep genres can be directly linked back to this place.
Please tell anyone you think might be interested, this is a piece of social history that needs to be seen by all those who went to the club or wished they were there...
Love and peace one day

Looking good Skully, seem to remember seeing a similar video a while ago. Has the film been coming for a while? Don't know if I'll be able to make it that night, but looks like a good event.

Woah so much things to say.
Also would like to extend my condolences and respect to the families and friends
of Arianna 'Ari Up' of The Slits and New Age Steppers, and the sweetest voice to grace a record, Mr Gregory Isaacs. RIP.Here's my contribution to the rememberings. I'll be playing four Gregory Issacs tunes at Bright Times Returns this week (as I was unable to play last week).
May not be to everyone's taste, but I love this random amazingness:
YouTube - The Slits - In the beginning there was rhythm
And along with 'The Border' posted already, I always really loved these by Gregory (check the video to Tune In too, wonderful footage)
Heaviest bassline I know, play it loud, and such sharp snappy snare syncopation ... utterly dreamy cut:

And this piece of loved up sweetness

Hi mate
We finished the film some time ago. Winstan has been working on other things, and trying to find the right backers to help arrange rights and fund a release of the film. He's close. This screening is another piece of the pie. There's been a couple recently, and will be more so I'll post it up again. The film's really interesting... a lot of the people who took part in the club over the years have been literally bowled over by what a piece of work it is, so these screenings help getting people behind it and trying to help sort out thhe rights stuff ... as you can imagine, the music needs to be right! -
• #717
wow sounds really good, huge amounts of respect for you, looks like an interesting project to work on. Education of where music today came from! The Shaka footage was looking like a good dance!

Thanks for kind words Monko. Hope you see the film sometime soon, and all the regular posters on this thread ... *m.f, adroit, goodhead, Superprecise, stupidpony, almac, conservative values, Eightball, come down if you can be in Dalston next wednesday.
Just found another little teaser trailer that Winstan made, with everyone saying who they remember played at the club ... the raver crew and all the reggae and souls stars intermingled... cute.
