Buy a couple pair of whatever cranks you prefer and send them here: http://www.highpath.net/highpath/cycles/repairs.html#tandem

I think probably a pair of doubles (165-170) with 1/8 rings on? looking at hollowtech and I know shimano do a 165mm road crank
1 single 1 double surely?
the front doesn't need to be a double, although it might help for chainline? -
• #129
chainline's why, yeah.

What's the advantage of crossover drive?
Setting ours up 1 single, 1 double, chainline seems fine.
Going to be a little while longer till it's ready to test on the road though. -

I can't find any closeups of track tandem drivetrains, I know the GB team ones are not set up crossover but can't remember how the rings were set up.
I'm thinking that a road double has about a 42mm chainline on the inner ring, which will match up for the hub. Then it would mean running the sync chain on the outside. Any reason why this shouldn't work?

Most non crossovers I've seen have inside sync chain, outside drive chain (incl this one:
having said that, most of the ones on google are crossover.
All in all I have no idea why they are set up Sync in, Drive out, but its normal to have the drive be much larger than the sync, so if it the other way around you run the risk of having chainring rub on the stays, no?
Edit:
Sheldon tells me inner chainline is 41, outer is 46 on standard Shimano.
A single sided spacer could pull that to 40/45, leaving you a wide range of hub options. -

Handy link that D. Not just for conversion, but repair of crank threads and modifications.

Yeah, I'm just wondering how this can be got round, maybe there's some funky respacing going on. I know they have been using hollowtech so maybe there's flexibility in that, can't see how you'd get the drive chainline right though.

what's the rear spacing?
It might be a bit higher than 120... which means single sided spacing on the rear hub is a possibility, but regardless- it is relatively simple to space out the hollowtech BB (and thus chainline).I bet if you email the people who set up the tandems properly, they'll be able to tell you something.

Good point, I'm not collecting it for a while so not really in a hurry. Plenty of time for research

Didn't DMC just set one up?
-
• #138
Mine came with the drivetrain already in place - Ultegra Octalink with MDT rings - 120mm rear
These are the best Dolan track tandem photos I found when searching over the last few weeks.

it arrived this morning. bit of a state but should be fun. cant find any serial numbers or any identifying marks. slowly starting to realise that i wont just be able to steal bits of old bikes

Does any one have a nice stoker stem for sale? 25.4mm for both clamps although i don't mind shimming.
Something like this one that I stupidly managed to miss on ebay would be perfect.
Or any suggestions of where to find one would be really helpful.

Just bought a really nice Orbit Twin steel tandem, approx 15 years old. Couldn't find much about it on the web so took a flyer on it, but it seems great. Great fun for the money (£400 in this case) - every cyclist should own one at least once.

Hi all,
I suppose I can consider this like the "tandem" general thread on the forum?
So this was bought last year with the intention of doing the tweed run with it, but Chris (Serk) and I did not get tickets... So the the refurb process was extended on over a year now. The tandem is now ready, for this year's tweed run, and I will be riding it with my friend Okan.
Original state when bought:
The completed project:
Sorry, not the best photos...
No need for crossover on a track tandem though is there?
