It was suggested in a thread last week that we should try to be less cynical and not create a "them against us" scenario and i'm giving it a go because i'm pretty sure who'll win that one! I know we all have our opinions but as edmundro proves, not all van drivers are bad drivers and cunts so maybe hurling abuse isn't the best opening salvo.
Having said that, this morning i wish i had just said fuck you and your mum because i'd have got more enjoyment from that.

If i fuck up and cut someone up i'd expect to get a stream of abuse, thats fine with me cos thats what i do when i'm out on my bike and get cut up.
It's all just a part of life in londons famous london. Stay safe and at least be witty with your insults. -

A couple of weeks ago two white vans were jostling for position on the road. They were jovially shouting at each other.
I wanted to get through so shouted "Beep beep" and one passenger leant out and asked what was up?
I did a mock rant "fucking White vans. Going slowly getting in my way, don't you know I have work to go to. Get out of my damn way. Don't you know I pay my road tax."
The occupants of both vans all burst into fits of laughter and they opened a gap for me to filter through.

I drove the white van of few occasions. It made me behave like a bigger prick, than when I drive BMW.
Vans should come with a mental health warning :-)

Then you grabbed them from their vans, threw them to the floor and rode off with the keys?

Didn't want to say this, on this forum, but I do drive a white van regularly too. -

thank you

Happens all the time, mate - there's no reasoning it. When riding, just try to do it in such a way that it avoids confrontations - easier said that done I know. Good luck!

sorry to hear about your incident. I had similar today with a HGV (cripes) responding to some sirens...the sirens were there - i waited...and waited....he had nowhere to go, or so i thought as it was full lunchtime traffic in holborn, and then i did a stupid thing, (thinking, he's got nowhere to go) and tried to pull into the left when the siren car was behind me.....at which point he, without indicating, surprisingly pulled left onto a curb and pretty much avoided crumpling me by some sort of miracle.
I think I was (almost?) as much to blame as him, but then a passing ped went off the chart with rage at the man, saying CHECK YOUR F**King MIRRORS ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL THE GIRL etc etc.............thank GOD there was no railing or I would NOT be writing this message - as its only for the absence of the railing that I managed to jump onto the curb.
So - even when you THINK a beastly truck has nowhere to go in full traffic DONT RISK IT! AAH! They might just pull left over a curb without checking their mirrors or indicating, and kill you.
Oh, and he apologised. Which was a first for me in a near -miss scenario.

Pish, sorry to hear about that. Some people are just utter morons, not much can be done without getting all fascist in the gene pool.
But.
I had a great incident with a van the other week, and I feel I have to share it to lighten the load of abuse on van drivers. Clearly, some of them are alright. I was a bit cheeky, ran a red light (naughty naughty etc) and had a few moments of scary head-to-head-grr with the driver of a van coming from the opposite direction turning down the same road as I was. Somehow I kinda ballsed it out and they caved and let me go. They caught up with me, window went down, I'm expecting the telling off I rightly deserve for cycling like a fool, and what did they do? Gave me a cheer and said "Yeah! Go on, girl!" or something along those lines, and then happily waved me off as I overtook them at another set of lights. Perhaps they were too nice? We need some middle ground here :P.

Shouldn't get angry and kick off, but it's too tempting. Just make sure you can get away if it turns too ugly for you.
