  • oh goodness.... now we need not only tea and biscuits but photocopying and presentation facilities. we cant talk to 30 people all at once... need to present the ideas and take feedback and discussion and type it all in, on a big screen, and agree it then and there. yet again its starting to swamp me...........argh!

  • I wont be able to attend unfortunately. But I would like to suggest an agenda item. Seperate bike lanes.

I've used them in Sweden and Germany and have heard they now have them in New York. They are great for slow or especially vulnerable cyclists (like children). For some reason the idea is not popular here and is usually dismissed.

Distribute the skills Kate, you're a great spokesperson and motivator but you shouldn't have to also be the organiser and chair.

There are enough people already involved for the work to be distributed, with everyone committed to making a bit of it work, and then bringing it together in frequent meetings.

  • Main aim of the meeting? Should a smaller meeting take place with plans (are there action plans?) discussed or is this going to be a huge brainstorm?

  • Katie can you post your list of ideas and we can prioritise them for the meeting, i am happy to chair it and drive it through keeping it on point if you want to expand ideas/avenues etc

  • It's probably usually dismissed because London's streets are a fixed width and trying to shoe horn in extra lanes is virtually if not actually impossible.

I think we need to be more focused here - the problem is lorries. What are we going to do about lorries? Especially left turning lorries. If we don't keep focused we're not going to achieve anything.

I wont be able to attend unfortunately. But I would like to suggest an agenda item. Seperate bike lanes.

I've used them in Sweden and Germany and have heard they now have them in New York. They are great for slow or especially vulnerable cyclists (like children). For some reason the idea is not popular here and is usually dismissed.

  • Whoever chairs it should ideally be someone with experience of chairing large meeting - not an easy skill or one that many people have.

  • Hippy/DK spot on
The outcome of this meeting is to agree what actions we will take in the immediate future: 2 to 6 weeks
These actions should be achievable by the people on here and not require specialist skills/connections

It needs to be focused on HGV dangerous only, We need details of previous campaigns and current road statistics (I can get the latter)
We need to understand what related campaigns are active and pending by other bodies – repetition has massive value at times.

A second discussion should take on the longer term issues and take on board campaigns running with Roadpeace. LCC, moving target etc.. but not here. Let’s not mix the two else we will achieve nothing.

  • Campaigning **is **a specialist skill. And trying to achieve this kind of change means you have to influence politicians and people who make policy or it's not going to happen.

    Sorry but that's the reality.

I agree with everything else you said though - esp should be short-medium term and focused on HGVs.

These actions should be achievable by the people on here and not require specialist skills/connections

  • Im right now on the phone to get the Cordy House (Curtain Road, Shoreditch). Just spoke to the owner, will get the answer this evening. For those of you who know the space, it works perfectly, bikes inside and everything.

  • ok looks like my old post got lost in others' posts:

  • I won't add myself to the list as I don't feel I have any relevant skills or suggestions and you don't need a load of people just filling seats and making up numbers. But when a plan has been decided and you need troops on the ground I'll be there and willing to help in anyway possible.

  • Yep I'd like to come. I work for a highways engineering company that runs the London Cycle Network+, so I've got access to stats, maps, funding, etc. If that would help?

    Sorry but that's the reality.

and it's worked so far when.. um.. by .. um...

Policy change will not educate riders and takes time. agreed there is a longer term aims that require strong cases and influence to push them. but there is good will and effort available here that can be harnessed and used to immediate effect.

Larger Campaigns take a more measured approach and require time/effort and resolve - i.e individuals\groups for long periods of time

  • Hi I very seldom come on here but you have my support, if you need banners or signs made email me at jamiethesignfitter@mac.com, I'll do whatever I can

  • OK so the first meeting should be small, just the very relevantly-skilled amongst us, like howsyourdad? or whoever has expertise in this field. Right?

  • if only to keep the biscuit cost low
