  • good dredge!

  • Yeah, just let's stick to the topic - I want to see blood!

  • OK, I'll go to Sainsbury's then.

  • I'm AB+, not sure what they do with mine after I donate it.

  • The very same. Now, whilst you may have heard that he is an all loving kind of guy and that his dad is pretty cool, I've had it on good authority that only a few thousand get into his members club after kicking the bucket. Srsly, why not join up, we're all really sorted.

    u srs bro?
i think i'm gonna donate as i recently just turned 17 so i iz eligible.

  • No gayz, bro.

  • you're jokes.

  • Seriously, why no gay?! Apart from the arguments EDL commentators on Yahoo presented already.

It's all about trust and mature attitudes. Apparently they're about to change it.

  • your not allowed to donate if your gay? that's well gay

  • You could always just say he's your aide?

  • u srs bro?

Deadly. I'm a blood, marrow and organ donating textbook Jehovah.

  • oh yeah thats all cool about organ and blood donation, just the way you phrased the sentence about heaven and whatnot sounded ridiculous when read out in my head.

  • as well as the current 'no gays' rule, and IEE's note about tattoos above, there's also something about having had sex with somebody from Africa within the last year.

Still, you can always lie, as I did about the time I bummed President Mobutu...

Drink plenty of water before giving blood, being well hydrated makes it much easier for the blood to flow. The bag blood goes into contains a certain amount of anticoagulent, so if you give too little there is an incorrect blood / anticoagulent ratio and they have to chuck it away. A travesty after sitting there for 20minutes. You still get a biscuit tho.

  • We used to go straight out on the piss after giving blood at Uni- may as well take advantage of your own generosity, eh?

  • I should make an extra effort and go give some again. I get begging letters as I'm O RH +ve and they can use that for lots of goodness. Trouble is unless I make appointments locally I just get turned away. Their loss as I've got bulging veins and can fill a bag in 5 mins.

  • as well as the current 'no gays' rule, and IEE's note about tattoos above, there's also something about having had sex with somebody from Africa within the last year.

Yep. And no brass contact either. And you're not allowed to accept money nor goods for sex.

  • Also, you can't go hungover. I got turned away as I'd had ibuprofen that day.

  • good bump kris. duly repped

  • Bump. Just booked #9 but it's in February as I can't make an appointment any earlier than that. In the mean time I might just have to go to Tooting Hospital where you don't have to worry about appointments.

  • Donation #9 done. Booked again for June and September.

Took the train rather than cycling but played 5-a-side last night. Didn't feel slower, ran just as much, but my Garmin shows I was about 10bpm up on what normally happens (which means I hit 201bpm during the game). Today's run will probably be slower than normal too.

  • #10 successful. I think I get a badge and a certificate at some point. Next two appointments (September and December) already booked, helpful that blokes can now donate every 12 weeks.

Train and another 2 hours of 5-a-side tonight. Plenty of (non-booze) rehydration already today.

  • #11 done. Badge and certificate came in the post a couple of months ago.

More people need to donate blood. Get out there those of you that can.

  • I would but I will literally feint and freak out and possibly run out, needle in arm, screaming and soiling myself.

Also, my blood is probably no good to anyone.

  • Successfully completed fourth donation since turning 17 a year and a half ago, arm more achy than normal, i think its because the nurse was new and slightly less gentle, 'be strong Rob-don't let it put you off' I tell myself over and over

  • Slight dredge - gave my 15th (I think) donation last week. If you are able this is a good thing.
