sure. I haven't done it for about 4 years as they didn't want it whilst I was taking some medication, the last year of that is me being too lazy to go down and start again.

Seriously guys it's important stuff. Not to mention it's very very good for you (helps your body deal with quickly replenishing blood if you get hurt).
I think a permanent Donor Center is a good bet if a group of us are to go. You don't need appointments and as far as I know they are only busy at lunchtimes in the more central London ones.

I'm not allowed, for a completely stupid reason. Unless they've changed the rules.

blood.co.uk has a full "you are not eligible if" list.
The reason I haven't been for so long is a silly reason too. It's just because it's not a mainstream drug it hasn't been tested and approved for blood donation, even though the way it works it should only be in your bloodstream for a few hours of every other day.

Dont think I can give, though I have not been piercied or tattooed over a year, I'm on meds. :(
I find the easiest way to have a needle stuck in me, is to take deep breaths, and ask them to "Stick in and withdraw" when I take a deep breath out.

I think I still have 3 months (ish) until I can do it all again. Good idea though velo, get involved people it really isn't a big deal/painful/any other stupid shit people tell you.

Amen.
Most people on here should be eligible, as we're all lovely fit cyclists.
tip: you will donate a lot quicker if you cycle hard to the donation center, get your heart going a bit!

blood donation sprints! Hook up people to an iv and time their extraction with stop watch and checkered flag. Or trackstanding with iv drains. Or fainting sprints.
Good night.

I give blood as often as they allow me too and had a very entertaining session reccently.
Myself and a elderly lady passed through the screening procedure and got stuck at the same time. For some reason i have a fascination with watching the needle disappear into my arm and was doing this throughout 3 failed attempts to poke a hole in my fairly sizeable veins. She finally got me bleeding by waggling the needle back and forth in my arm and off we go.
The rest of the donation went fine and i hop of the bed at the same time as the elderly lady and we both headed to the little refreshments area. We stand facing each other. Me, penguin in hand and her toting a coffee stood next to a waist high circular flip top bin. We make small chat for a few seconds before she passes out and collapses sideways through the lid of the bin. She stumbles and recovers, standing up with the bin on her head before finally totally collapsing to the floor. The bin disintergrates leaving her with a rubbish crown and the lid around her head like those cones vets put on post-op pets. This is achieved almost silently so i get the attention of the nurses and start helping the woman up, and scoop her glasses out of the bottom of the bin.
With her safely in the hands of the nurses i excuse myself and leave the donor centre. As i begin to unlock my bike i scratch my face with the arm i donated from and am suprised to discover my hand appears to be very wet. Confused i look at my arm and only to find i appear to be ex-sanguinating through the hole in my arm. The dressing over the hole has swollen to the size of a golf ball and blood is freely running off my arm so i amble back in to centre to be tended to.
More free biscuits and pop and a good lie down later and i finally get back to work with a set of very impressive track marks which developed into a wonderful scag bruise over the following days.
giving blood: a good laugh!

Would love to do it but they have ridiculous rules about tattoos. Basically it seems that if you get tattooed once a year or so, they don't want it.
I really wish they would revisit that policy.

I donate plasma every 4 weeks, I find it has less of an impact on my riding than donating whole blood. My total donations now over 90.It is a regular check on blood pressure and iron count.
I don't know how many of you give blood, but I started last year (done 3 times, I swear it gets more horrible every time), and was thinking that my next time to give will be soon, and was wondering if anyone would care to join me in having a needle stuck in their arm?
