  • Yeah buddy! Roll on 6pm! It's about the only reason I make it through Wednesdays...

  • Hey guys ! I'm gonna start looking for an indoor court for Brighton for the winter ! Any help/ideas would be grately appreciated , Brighton has a roller derby team , does anybody know any of the girls who play or where they practice ?

Also on a personal note , I have just bought some carbon forks for my road bike , but there threadless unlike the ones I'm currently rockin' & was just wondering what adjustments I need for the headset ? I've got a 1 1/8 shim & gonna buy a 1 1/8 stem , is there anything else I need etc ? Much love ! X

  • Bonjour, mes amis! I is back. What time's everyone heading down ce soir? Thinking 5ish myself.

Chris, good idea. Been thinking along similar lines myself ever since the Cambridge tourney. Have irregularly googled for warehouses in the area. All pretty expensive. Liam's mentioned the roller derby girls before. Don't know if he knows any of them, but they're out Moulscombe way I think. Definitely worth investigating though. I'll help out if I can. Speak about it tonight innit.

  • Liam has also talked about a court used for disabled basketball. Not sure where that is either, but I've got a funny feeling it's also out at Moulscombe. Possibly the same place as the roller derby. Obviously wouldn't be an issue with tyre marks as wheelchairs are okay.

  • Emailed the Moulsecoomb Leisure Centre with an enquiry. Just asked if they did cater for the Wheelchair Basketball (you don't have to be disabled to play it :P) and Rollerderby crews, explained that they were broadly similar to Bike Polo and asked if we could use the hall. The webshite says they are ready for "uni-hockey", add another wheel and you've got bike polo, right?

Chris, won't you need a 1" threadless headset to use with those new forks?

  • Fucking rain! If it doesn't stop before 6 then I prolly won't be down.

  • Court side now. No rain. If no one else is gonna bother then I'm off so get down pronto

  • So much awesome polo, loving BRTNPOLO at the moment

  • Yesss tonight was really good, some great hard and fast games. viva bn1 polo!

  • ^+1.

So whassup with weekend attendance at the mo? Are Sundays proving difficult? I may have mentioned it before, but I'd be well up for switching to Saturdays if it was any better for other peeps? Would free up Saturday nights and Sundays a treat. 5 pints of snake bite & black and dodgy Metal nights on a Friday aren't really my bag these days.

    Still chipping away.....

  • I haven't played polo since the Open.

My bike is in Bristol and every weekend from now until the Bristol tournament is booked up with family obligations. I have enough time in my office job to think about all the polo I could be playing and bike bits I want for my new setup but my first paycheck is yet to come through after 2 months work!

I'm going to be so rusty by the Bristol tourney.

    Life sucks.

  • Naww Tim, we miss you here too buddy! Polo has been good, it's true, we even had a visit from Josh last Sunday.

I haven't received a reply from the Moulsecoomb centre yet, I'll keep ye all posted.

+1 to the pub crew last night, it really made polo for me :)

  • FFS i always suggest an after-polo pint, and the week i dissapear off early you all go out for one! I do think it is a neccesity though, even if just to get over any arguments people have had on court.

I have been a bit lax on weekends at the moment because i work till 6 on saturdays and 5 on Sundays. iff people start polo at 1 i always assume it's gonna be pretty finished by the time i get there.

  • I think there's a good culture of "what happens on-court, stays on-court" anyway, we can all get aggy/annoyed with polo at times. It's hard not to be emotionally invested in it!

Sundays are still good for me, I look forward to them in fact. If people want to play a bit later then that's cool.

  • One of these. Is at G-whizz in Hove NOW. Was thinking about getting it but not sure so would like to open it up to others that might be interested.

Website here. Although it says Alu its not, its steel, i checked when i test rode it

  • Rich there are a few Pomps knocking around for that sort of money here, but I guess it is nice and close...

    You playing in Brizzle?

  • That Kona Worldbike is cool as fuck!

£200 for a complete bike like that is a steal imo...

  • Polo was sweet last night , & agreed, pub talk is good for a wind down & polo discussion , not so much what happened on court , but just to talk about general polo stuff as most of us only get " face time" twice maybe even once a week ,plus it's a good chance to get to know noobies & them to know us , not as the "polo sharks" we are on the court ?! .......and it's an excuse for a weekday beer , right ? Sundays are good & I'm in the process of rectifying my poor Sunday attendance of late especially pre bristol ! X

  • Mouslsecombe leisure has 2 floodlit outside courts. I bet they are cheap as chips to hire. Given that we probably dont have a huge amount to spend each week would that be easier that going for the full on gucci indoor court?

  • yes! might be cheaper too if we have a night each week for the whole winter, as opposed to a pay as you go? Maybe look for sponsors to help pay for courts?

  • Well, I still ain't had a reply from the 'Scoomers centre. I'll ring them later today. I can see one day a week over the winter being a good compromise between weather/money/numbers, although there's nowt to stop us having the odd outdoor game in when it's dry.

  • ^This. Maybe see what the cost of hiring the indoor one is for one day a week and see if collectively we can afford it.

I am also up for stepping it up so maybe pick another weekday and then see if we can get an outdoor court game sorted too for those that want it (ad hoc based on numbers and cost). Keep ontop of it during the winter we'll kill it come tourney season :)

Sundays can the be chill sessions

    Irie!

I'd rather we had two floodlit outdoor sessions a week than one indoor and one unlit outdoor. Weather isn't that bad, being outside is much cheaper and much less hastle, e.g. about our bikes taking up chunks of the floor, drinking beers, smoking etc.
But I'm happy to go with whatever people want.
