We all know people like this they do have a defining character trait that seems to consume them, take it away and they have nothing.

Well, that's a bit contentious, isn't it. I've met people who are more militant about a salient aspect of their being (could be career choice or a whole heap of other things besides gender/sexuality/disability/other stuff that has a legislative framework - although maybe everything has a legislative framework lurking somewhere...?); or people in a transient militant phase.

Take the 'struggle' away, and they're not necessarily going to emotionally starve. Probably more likely to be the opposite, as they adopt a more holisitic view of themselves.

I mean the thing where you can tell, by the relative length of your index and ring fingers, whether you have female or male brain patterning (or halfway between – its a spectrum) from the hormonal markers laid down in the womb. I read a paper about it ages ago, but yeah, it may well be called what you say, I can't remember. A surprising amount of men and women have the opposite pattern than you'd think, though. Men with lady fingers are often extremely intelligent and end up being academics, apparently. Verbal reasoning, yadda yadda.
