I only included such personal home-truths, because I simply wanted to re-enforce and drive home my points that I made, whilst simultaneously offering a response to a couple of accusations that were thrown at me in the thread, possibly from my comments being misconstrued and not taken in the manner they were intended.
For instance you accused me of not respecting people because of the way they look, which was incorrect, I felt the need to correct you on this so I further explained exactly what I meant by my comments.
You then insinuated in the same breath that I had issue with larger people, again wrong, so I felt I had to elaborate further on my point to fully explain what I mean so that there was no doubt about what I was trying to convey.By the way I am not attempting to be argumentative with this response, simply explaining my actions, I like a good bit of mass debating as much as the next man ;)

CJ, I have re-read the entire Ditto thread. I was not referring to your home-thruths about family. It was the specific comments. But that is now dead, and I hope, buried.

What I want to know is:
where to the hermaphrodites stand on this?

They can sit on the fence more comfortably than most.

I stand by all points i've made there, I agree with your views on many things, and I think you have a lot of valid points, but there are certain things in this world I can't condone or agree with.
But I think we've already been through most of those. -

Its typical of the extremely immature responses on here to generally ignore women's sensibilities and needs on this forum.
On a recent thread of mine, I was PM'd by a very popular lady on here, that she no longer took part on this forum as much, **due to men being boys.
**
I wish the men on here were men most of the time.Women carry us into this world. What sort of "man" doesn't care for them?
Also, there seems to be a real acceptance of the HTFU attitude to women on here. Thats wrong also.
**So why do women feel so marginalised here?
**
I'm really shocked other guys on here don't come down really hard on the throwaway comments made here, that are so offensive to women.Lil, you're not average. There are women on here that take less and less part of the goings-on here. They are drifting away, just as you find alot of the b**oyish humour to be funny.
**
**You just are not aware how differently some other women are viewing this forum.
**
Also, why should something as VITAL as respect-to-women, be allowed to die off light-heartedly?This thread will not survive long, but not because it isn't worthy, but because no-one will take responsibility for **how the other half should be treated. **
Even you Lil will become tired of the woman-hating, and woman-baiting.
Everyone knows that women are not happy about many things said on this forum, against women in general.
Its offensive to most women on here. LndnGrl is the exception, because her humour is testosterone-laced.
However,** Bendix, you can outboy the boys.** Meaning, that in terms of cycling speed (I am positive from what I've heard, you are many times my superior), and certainly your character **doesn't seem at all dainty. **
you seem to think you are incredibly knowledgeable about what people think and wise about what people should do. you also seem to have very entrenched ideas of what a man and a woman are that is quite sexist in itself and possibly even homophobic.

They won't have one to sit on with all these people taking offence!

@Scott: in the post you quote where I mention Nhatt and Tricity the 'drivel' I referred to was specifically and exclusively sexist comments which I thought would have been obvious from the context. That I mentioned Nhatt and Tricity is again because the post was solely about sexist attitudes and they have been the most outspoken on that subject recently.
It had nothing to do with crap threads in general. Equally this thread is not about the forum in general but about sexism and misogyny which is why I asked why you were mentioning 'irrelevant' threads. You're conflating two arguments; one about sexism where I think we agree and one about the forum in general where we don't. We have had this discussion before, it has been going on forever and as BMMF points out it is one which will keep reappearing.
The threads of mine that you selected were, in fact, all started as a response to other threads. The car appreciation thread was started to stop another thread being derailed with talk about cars; that it's turned out to be one of the most viewed and contributed to threads on the forum was a surprise to me but you can hardly blame me for the demand it's success shows was there already. Had I not started it someone else would, just as someone soon after started a football thread. I noticed a trend at the end of last year for more and more specific threads and that's what my "thread thread" was about. The chip pan thread was a response to one about kitchen knives which had largely elicited a mixture of anger and disdain. There is more than one way of making your point about something you don't like: the naked sailor thread was a response to the glossy girls thread and, specifically, to some homophobic comments sent my way. Oddly you missed out "Are all scousers criminals?" which is a shame because surely you'd think that drivel whereas in fact it was a response to Pistanator's "Are all essex girls sluts?". As I say there is more than one way to react; that your intention may be missed on some members, that it might fly right over their head, is no reason not to do it. I would be more than happy if new members took them as examples of one way to express your views. If they miss the point and just start worthless threads I'm not going to be held responsible for their witlessness.
The only time starting a thread annoys me is when it's a repost or an old question where the poster has not even bothered to use the search. In M&M anything goes; that Ga2G started the Beth Ditto thread is not the problem, it could have been the starting point for an interesting discussion. The problem is that it turned in to a mostly schoolboyish waste of time.
You might not like the threads you cite but plenty of other people repped me for them and we could spend a lot of time swapping testimonials from our respective friends to back up our points. That would get us through the winter at least.
I find a lot of the bike related posts to be drivel so I ignore them. That other people enjoy it is fine by me; we can all enjoy bikes and cycling in our own ways; talking at length about bikes and critiquing other people's "builds" is not my idea of fun. The forum is big enough that you can create your own bespoke version and I think that is what a lot of people are doing now. -
