  • I'm in too. Emailed.

    didn't get a mail from you V..?

OK people, we still only have 9 places booked and it's this sunday!

  • Rob

Have you got Camilla as a definite and Mrs O as a possible?

  • I can make as i have to do cisco sitting :(

  • Yes, please. Emailing now.

  • Got slightly dodgy knees at the moment, but can't pass this opportunity up. Emailed!

  • Right I'm going to try and get some of the 50 fixed ladies in on this - I'll get PM'ing

I'm also now thinking that I might use my own bike rather than a loan one, simply because I'm used to it. I have some track drops at home and have just ordered a smaller cog - going 44x13 - will that be too big? 44x14 seemed on the small side.

Also Rob can I keep both cogs on my double fixed hub, or do I have to take one off for track - I read in a trackie thread that this was sometimes the case.

  • 44x13 (91.4") might be a touch high? On the blog Rob says 82-90" is fairly normal.

I've ridden a few times on 49x15 (88.2") at HH and found I never got on top of the gear, so for Sunday I'm dropping down to 48x15 (86.4").

  • Hmm, I worked it out on rabbit and it came to 89.3 with 25c tyres on and 170 cranks
    44x14 comes out at 82.9

    What do you reckon?

  • Ah, you've done it with the proper maths, I just used the old imperial table on Rob's blog again. I don't know which is the best way to work it out to be honest, one for a proper trackie to answer

  • At HH you can keep both your cogs on as far as I know - it's just indoor tracks that worry about you scratching their pretty varnish if you have your cog on the other side.
Rob uses special measurements for his gear inches so he might work out your ratio to be different to what you think. For a first time 90+ will probably feel too high, so maybe go with your lower ratio.
    48x15 is a nice gear.

  • one for a proper trackie to argue amongst themselves about
    .

  • I texted him (he's away enjoying the enthralling attractions at Blackpool today), 82-90" is based on the imperial table, so 44x14 looks the best bet of the two Clefty

  • 44x13 would be a tad high I'd think. I normally race on 47x14 which is around 90". Rob uses the proper method to calculate gear inches, he told me this himself.

  • Cool, I'll go for a 44x14 then, Thanks ladies - looking forward to this!

  • putting the 15 cog on the surly as I type....well, kind of. I will do it today.

  • Rob uses special measurements for his gear inches.

? eh, I use the standard imperial chart, like every other track coach and track racer in the country!
