ed,start with a really small drill bit and increase in size until youve drilled away the rest of the allen key socket head ,then clout it with a screwdriver

Rah. Really annoyed. Just got my new bars in the post today, ones that actually fit without a cider can shim. Win. Went to put them on when i got back from work and lo and behold my cinelli stem clamp bolt is all rounded out. Fail. Some useful suggestions around here which I'll have to attempt. Just gave the "Hammering a larger allen key in the bolt" method a go, but to no avail. Whatever I do, sounds like I'm in the market for a new cinelli clamp bolt. Anyone have any laying about? (Wrong thread i know, I'll be posting in classifieds too). Have there been any magnificent advances in "rounded out by a moron bolt removal technologies" in the last month or so?
/rant. Off to ride bike with stupid shimmed bars.

Thread dredge. I snapped a stem bolt the other day. Luckily I was able to cut a groove in the rear and wind it out with a screwdriver.
But now there are a couple of tiny shavings visible in silhouette when I look through the hole. Should I do anything about this before winding a new bolt in?
Also, does anyone know what bolt I need? The stem is one of these: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/token-tk931cp-chrome-plated-track-stem/?lang=en&curr=GBP&dest=1&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=token%20stems%20phrase&utm_campaign=RTC_token&referid=googwig&utm_adgroup=P_Token_TK931CP%20Chrome%20Plated%20Track%20Stem&gclid=CJ_S4JqL4b8CFU_JtAod53MAOQ

Options are to drill it out, easy out, or weld another bolt to it. I'd personally go for the easy out.

The bolt's already out. Hole is clear. I just need to know if I should use any sort of tool to clean the threads, or just whack another bolt in. And what sort of bolt I need.

No, not essential.
Get a new bolt from your friendly LBS. Generic sizes, I believe on these new fangled items...
Lube it and run it through the thread, before fitting it. Clean off any swarf-like debris evident and refit it to the fork, ideally torqued up to spec.Tap and die sets from the cheap German Supermarkets are worth buying when they periodically appear.
You okay,Ed?
