Necro thread dredge alert.
Looking for an otp for a slightly chubby, talentless aging ex-skater. Me.
Just noticed my old proper houdini cruiser is back up for sale so I may grab it back. Might not tho.
Just looked through this thread and realised that things have come a long way in the last 6/7years since i built mine up.
Sooo, with that in mind i'm kinda tempted with an otp from one of the deeply uncool brands such as gt or mongoose due to them being better specc'd(as i learnt above)
Will probably be able to stretch to £250ish for a complete and currently looking at the gt fly,or the 09 mongoose accomplice

cheapest full chromo i've seen so far.
any thoughts? I'm gonna be old manning it around, not ripping it up with the kids so fashion/brand doesn't matter but i will be relearning all tricks pretty much from scratch, not weedy but i would like something lighter than my old proper(approx 6000kg)
Not got the money anytime soon, just browsing at the mo and was wondering if there was anything i'd missed that pisses all over the ones i've spotted. -

Go for a WeThePeople OTP, they are doing some really nice ones. Verde are also doing some. It would be worth spending that bit more so it dosent brake on you.

I too am fat and old but fashion always matters, forget GT and Mongoose and go see what Volt has in stock... (www.voltbmx.com)
Uniteds, WeThePeople, Verde's all pretty shit hot completes.... -

Yeah was looking at the wtp as well, know their otp are king but it was a little more than I wanted to spend. Part of me wants to stretch to the sunday am just cos Arron Ross is the business imo but it looks a lot of coin for hi-ten. Is there a comparitive weight chart for otp bmx anywhere? Or is weight way less important than i think? I presume cheapo bmxs nowadays prob weigh less than my old one.
Also, if theres any other suitable skill-less people on here up for some shameful secret bmx this summer then hit me up. -

Failing to see what the extra £50 on top of a gt fly would actually get me. The difference in weight appears to be negligable in the sub £300 range so i guess is durability and name i'll be paying for as much as anything else? Would really only want to pay over £250 if its going to make a huge difference. I'm 11stone which is obviously way more than most of the kids who ride cheap otp bmx so is there a much bigger chance of me killing a bike in this range?
Gonna head over to volt in the next day or so but if the bmx afficionados on here could step in and let me know what i'm looking for and what to avoid that'd really help. Don't feel like getting a utfs flaming on a bmx forum so i'll leave that for now. -

Never use a BMX forum. Ever.
You could buy an OTP whatever from Volt, and then buy my United Forte HT frame off me for 50 quid... I think I will have a new frame within the month (jinxing...) so my well used one would be spare.
The guys in Volt are sound, they put up with amazingly daft people strolling in harping on about rubbish, someone with a genuine interest in buying the right bmx for themselves will be treated like a king...
I'm 11 stone too, and land like a sack of spuds on everything, never broken a thing on my bike... you'll be fine.

Going to volt tomorrow to give the united recruit rn2 a ride if they've got one in.
All still pie in the sky at the moment for me but bmx missed me by as i only ever used mine to ride to the skatepark. Regret it now and want to get back on it before its too late.I like what you're saying about volt would rather buy face to face and if they're not 17yr olds who'll take the piss than even better. I really couldn't give a shit who makes my bike as long as its what I need to do the job of relearning. Just want to be able to get up and down kerbs cleanly with a couple of cheeky grinds and bar spins for good measure.
That said, gt now sound like twunts for dropping the teams so might pay an extra £20 just to pay someone rent instead of funding a big firm.
I agree with Scott about the GT's at that price level - check this GT Zone, for £179 at JE James
It has a paintscheme and look the kid will love (which in reality is what most kids care about), and a spec that you wont be able to better for the price
