  • I had a ditto looper x2 which was ok and now i have an amplitude stomp which is much more intuitive and you get millions of effects too

  • Pfff, Guitar mag (cough).

He's a good lad Barrie. The 330 vid is worth a look too.

  • Heh, I know. Not met him but we have mutual friends who speak highly of him. He's a phenomenal player. Been a Little Barrie fan from day one. For some reason he has that vanishly rare knack of making hoary old blues and soul cliches sound entirely fresh and somehow authentic. He never sounds like a white guy doing an impression of that stuff... bastard.

  • I've got a Boss RC1, and its great - simple to use. Having used it for a year or so, I'd like a few more choices on set up (mainly easy removal of the top loop), but its great fun, and really useful for working up ideas.

  • Barrie!!

Chorus? Does anyone care? Up there with flange (and maybe phase) as the most shit effect ever...

  • I'm struggling to watch this... šŸ¤®

  • Iā€™m such a guitar hipster its starting to concern me...

  • That'll be a full bingo once you change the stock pickups in your Jazzmaster to P90s...

Block and bound 2/3, bang on trend... šŸ˜‰

  • PS Tym is making Bass VI pickup sets, let me know if you're interested...

  • Actually for me the stock pickups on the 60th anniversary are great, wouldn't want to change those and it's for sale anyway at mo as I want to build a jazzblaster baritone
As for the bass vi, the pickups are fine for my use but certainly interested in what Tym is making? tell me more?

  • I've pre-ordered Strymon's latest. Was a big fan of the El Capistan so think this looks sounds great.

  • I used to claim to hate chorus in the 90s without really realising that it was all over some of the guitar sounds I liked the most (Nirvana particularly). For most of my playing life it was sort of a joke that would get trotted out every time we ended up in a rehearsal space that had a Jazz chorus in. It was mandatory for someone to plug in, crank the chorus and play the chords from Purple Rain and a few Police riffs and laugh at how shit and cheesy it was...

We'd never stick it in a song mainly because it's such a signifier of 80s pop production and the that aesthetic that was everything that we hated...

Having said that, i later realised how much i enjoyed dicking about with chorus in private as a guilty pleasure, there's something uniquely fun about it. Given that i'm now an old bastard with no interest in what anyone thinks, i might be tempted to stick a bit of chorus in a tune.

  • Also, i just got a car allowance with my new job. Spent first one on the SD antiquity 1955 Tele bridge pu.

    Woop!

  • ha nice!

I actually love chorus. It's such an 80s effect, such a short cut to spookiness, so 'The Cure', that I just can't help but love it. It's corny as hell but it's just brilliant. Usually I don't get to use it in my proper work, so I've found myself using a lot of ensemble type chorus instead. Hits the same notes but stops your pals going OH BRILLIANT WORK MATE ARE WE GOIGN TO DO A BALLAD NEXT, WITH A BIG 80S SNARE DRUM YEAH

  • yes!

I'll go and take a pic of that banjo later today btw. All social obligations cancelled due to sick child. *guilty woop!

    sorry not sorry

  • Oh noes! Poor little mite. Hope illness is lifting soon, obvs no rush on the pics.

  • All good. Just usual kid stuff. Thanks tho!

Ok, so itā€™s a no name 1930s 5 string with new velum but... the neckā€™s so bowed itā€™s pretty much unplayable. Neck needs removing and straightening with steam and clamps. Itā€™s up for Ā£120 but he said heā€™d take Ā£75... might be a fun project?

  • Dude that owns the shop (mainly records and a few crappy stereo and guitar bits) is bit of a local legend. Ex Motƶrhead roadie and all round sound dude. His records are really bargains but the music gear is always overpriced. Guess he just expects to haggle for the guitar bits... now I know his opening gambit on the banjo was basically half price iā€™m Def going to start negotiating on a few other bits!

  • No truss rod in a banjo?

  • ^ Looks like a Windsor Economy. No truss rods in these.... tension was pretty low as the two thickest strings were meant to be gut or wound gut IIRC.

Neck could be straightened, but the frets might then fall out and if you can't do the work yourself you could end up putting in more than it's worth. Best gambit generally with zither banjos is to wait for a really good one...

  • I think I want a mandolin.

  • What does the ā€œzitherā€ bit refer to or mean? Guess thatā€™s going to be pass anyway.

Also, Somebody sent me a video of their debut live gig performance this week and prominently in shot was a poster advertising @rickster as a coming attraction.

    Made me chuckle
