It's an 8 year old cheapish Yamaha. Never adjusted it before... Wondering if it's loosened off so much that there's barely any tension on the truss rod or something like that. Will mess about with it some more.
After that if I want to drop the action further I'm going to have to file slots into the bridge and drop the saddle more and switch to the lightest gauge strings I can find. Neck reset doesn't seem worth it on a guitar that was £200 (I think?)

Can you get the bridge saddle out? You can just flat file the bottom of it then to lower the bridge rather than trying to file slots in it. Same at the nut end.
A full neck reset might not be worth it, but maybe a setup (where you don't mind a new bridge / nut going in) might be.

Yeah I've already filed the saddle down a bit. If it goes much further it's going to be really close to the bridge.
This article describes what I mean: https://hazeguitars.com/blog/shaving-an-acoustic-guitar-bridge
I should probably take it into a shop though before I start permanently filing stuff away, you're right.

Went with the posh Tomastik ones. Sounding great in Open C.

Thinking about strings, I use Martin silk and steels for my acoustic. Originally bought them as I had some credit in a shop and thought "silk and steel? I'll give them a go" and they were silver. Used 'em ever since. God knows what the difference between them and normal strings are, other than being silver.
Rotosounds for electric. Because Kent home county support!

Martin on Acoustic and Ernie Ball on electric although I've been meaning to try the Ernie Ball acoustic strings soon.

Silk and steel have a silk or nylon wrap under the outer winding. Tend to be mellower sounding and lower tension. The Tomastik Plectrums I like are similar. But they're bronze and have super nice green rubberised cloth bits on the headstock ends too. It's the little things.

I always thought Silk and Steel would've been the strings for me. I don't like bright sounding guitars, I really like the low mid, my favourite type of guitar is one which has had the same strings on it for years and it all sounds muffled and rich. But while the silk and strings did great in reducing the treble, they also felt like they reduced the bottom as well - they were very middly strings. A shame. Why doesn't someone make strings that sound rusty?

Ha! Perfect for this:

I've got a 000 shape guitar, which is supposed to be lots of middle - not that I can tell, I got it due to the comfort of the shape over anything else - and the silk and steels match it just lovely.
Wheres the metalocaster from? I like that a lot! Will have to wear a gas mask and hammer out some Legion of Andromeda with it.

James Trussart I think...

Rather out of my pricing league, but still gorgeous.

So... after much dawdling I've decided to finally bite the bullet and buy a baritone.
I had done the deal on an S-Works Allez frameset and the fecker sold it to one of his club pals before I could collect it so rather than starting another build I've decided to redirect that moolah into music kit.
My Danelectro Baritone arrived at home today and I've just seen an S-Works Allez frameset for sale for the same price I was going to pay for the other one :|

It's so much fun. I expected it to be a bit of a one trick point tonally but it's great! So many different sounds. Oddly the bridge pickup is the clearer of the two white the neck is the more aggressive sounding but picking/ strumming up and down the neck changes the tone from almost Tele-like jangle to double bass like fatness!
Action is a fraction high and I'm still not sold on the paint but all in all I love it! Need to get a case to fit it now...

apologies for shit quality vid. Selfie cam propped on a cushion and backlit setting don’t make for great cinematography. Was semi deliberate as this was filmed about 10 mins after I rolled out of bed.

The moment when the little boy comes wheeling in is just wonderful.
That is the truss rod, yep. How old is the guitar? Might have an effect on the rods usefulness.
